Re: need help with this

Sorry your pics didn’t come through in the PM. I thought in a previous thread that I may have burn through clear coat.

From what I gathered if it’s basecoat/clear and you burn through you’ll get base coat color on your pad.

I couldn’t figure it out with info i got here as it was hard to tell in pics.

I took it to Griots and they thought it was some kind of dealer installed coating.

Could push the edges out with a cutting microfiber pad and Fast correcting cream but no transfer of paint to pad.

Also alot of people here including my not gonna click on link to pics.

If you download Tapatalk it’s a forum hosting app that lets you download pics straight from your phone. It’s free unless you wanna upgrade

Re: need help with this

The blurring in question appears to be that you have made it through to the gray primer. Is there black color on your buffing pad? If so it's a dead giveaway that you went through the clear coat and the top coat to the primer.

This from Spikey Mike is dead-on accurate.

I'm sorry but like others, I find it hard to see what you're trying to show us with the pictures. Here's the one you linked to,

But here's the deal. If you see the color of the basecoat or the primer on your buffing pad - that's a really bad sign.

:dunno:

I agree with IH8SPM - that definitely looks like it's been repainted. Aftermarket clear can be much softer than what the car came with.

What were your steps that brought you here? What product, pad, machine, number of passes? Are you in a high sun area?

With all the talk of coatings that takes place here, I don't know anyone's ever brought up being able to see the line as you polish one off... Unfortunately I'd guess you're probably looking at compromised clear? :dunno:

I’ll have to try again later to see if the color of the paint transfers to the pad.

If the car or portions of the car have been repainted, it could be that what you're seeing is called a

Blend Line

That's where the body panel was repaired and then repainted and the painter only sprayed the CLEARCOAT paint over a section of the body panel thus leading to a blend line.

The better way to do it is to spray the entire panel or to any hard breaks or body lines so the blend line is not visibly apparent.
