So I had something bump into my car and cracked the paint, so I used 3000 grit sanding disc to smooth out the paint. Right now it is exposing the primer without any paint.

I then coated the car with cquk after polishing that area after sanding.

However I noticed a shadow where the chip was, and I thought It was some high spot from cquk, so I used a crimson pad with HD polish to remove it. But it didn't, so I stepped it up with tangerine and Fg400 after wipe off I noticed the spot has gotten bigger after compound and polish steps.

Pics add later

The shadow is where you sanded/buffed through the cc. The panel needs a repaint.

If the paint "cracked" - that would be the correct fix anyway.

Well damn.... I should have left it alone, because after the polishing it made it worst.

I cant believe 3000 grit went thro the clear?!?!

That looks like a chip rather than crack.

That's a shame, the chip looks like it would have been a great candidate for Dr. Colorchip. The sanding/buffing through the clear and color coat, not so much.

I actually did plan on using Dr Colorchip, but they dont have the formula for my paint code....

Anyways, i didnt expect 3000 to eat up the clear that quick but i guess the clear was SUPER THIN.

I still cant believe the compound/polish made it MUCH worst than where i started from.

I guess i will need to get some side stripes to cover that chip and boo boo lol

PS: The PAINT WAS CRACKED, like a split in the middle. I sanded it down to smooth it out for touch up paint.

I can't even tell what part of the car that is...heck, I can't even tell it's a car. As far as the 3000 grit, I get a knot in my stomach every time I pick up a piece of sandpaper for something like this. Generally I would only sand to level the touchup, not before (except for cleaning rust from the chip). I also tend to tape around the defect as much as I can to prevent oversanding anything but the chip.

Did I mention I hate touching up chips? It never comes out as I would like it to.

That's the lower rocker panel lol
