Did my detailer ruin the paint?

Brought the car to a buddy who has a small detailing business and has detailed a few Porsches & other sports cars.

He was able to take care of most of the issues but he made this nasty spot on the hood. I suspect this is what clear looks like when it begins to burn through.

Any insight on what causes this, and whether or not its fixable? He said he thinks he can fix it by sanding it but I'm not comfortable with the idea now.

I appreciate your responses.

I saw the clear coat failure thread with all the sample pictures. You only have one picture, with one angle, so this is a rough guess, but I'd give it a likely chance that you are in the early stage of clear coat failure on that spot.

Hard to say with 1 pic, but that appears to be a classic burn though the paint...i'm not the king of wet sanding by any means, but what exactly does he plan to sand if there is no paint left? I'd find a local detailer who has a paint thickness gauge to tell you exactly whats going on, or post better pictures...If it is burn the only way to fix would be to re-spray the entire panel

Unless that's some sort of weird flash artifact, it looks like he not only went through the clear, but through most of the base as well, the lighter color that is appearing is the primer. The puzzling part is I see what looks like flake still in the middle of the spot.

Oh well, at least it looks like he got all the swirls out.

That's totally ruined if its not a camera flash artifact.....Clean through the clear coat and most of the paint. You can't correct what not there. You have one option and that's a repaint in my opinion. That being said, it's hard to tell by one single picture...
