Hi everyone,

What's the difference between waterless washing and quick detailing? It seems both of them use a spray and wipe type of product...

The waterless washing products have a lot more (double or triple) the polymers and other cleaning agents designed to "lift" the dirt off the surface. So the waterless is designed for slightly "dirtier" cars. They are still not a replacement for traditional washes, including rinseless washes like ONR

I have to disagree. Waterless washing can replace traditional washing methods. Technology has come very far and it is possible to wash a very dirty car waterless.

Thanks for the info guys. So will this replace quick detailers? I don't see the point of quick detailers now that waterless washes are available. It seems like the waterless wash products are quik detailers on steroids right?

IMO quick detailers leave a better shine/gloss then waterless washes. I use both and when it's just dusty I use a QD, or while I'm drying I use a QD.

I have used Aquanil-x and could not get a streak free finish, I tried numerous times and watched Frank's videos many times thinking I was doing something wrong (which I probably was), I personally think that the ultima waterless is much better

From my article list...

The difference between a Normal Car Wash, a Waterless Car Wash, a Rinseless Car Wash and a Spray Detailer

There are 4 popular approaches to washing and cleaning cars, below are descriptions of the four different approaches followed with the products that can be used for the different approaches.

Normal Car Wash
A normal car wash is simply the more traditional method of dragging out the water hose, filling a bucket with water, adding the soap then spraying the car down with water, then washing the car and then going back to the water hose to rinse the suds off and then repeating this over the rest of the car before the section you just washed has a chance to dry possibly causing water spots. This system works well but it also uses a lot of water and in some areas it may not be allowed.

Waterless Car Wash
A waterless car wash is where you use a high lubricity pre-mixed spray detailer to heavily saturate a panel and then carefully wipe any dirt or road grime off to a dry shine. The key to working safely with a waterless car wash is to use plenty of clean, microfiber polishing towels and after using all 8 sides of a microfiber towel, quit using the microfiber towel and switch to a new, clean microfiber polishing towel so you don't simply transfer dirt removed from one panel to another panel.

Rinseless Car Wash
A rinseless car wash is kind of a cross between a normal car wash and a waterless car wash. Like a normal car wash, you’re still going to use water, but only a couple of gallons. Like a waterless wash, instead of rinsing your wash solution off, you’ll work panel by panel and wipe each panel to a dry shine using microfiber drying towels like the Water Guzzler. With a Rinseless Wash, you’ll use dramatically less water but still be flushing the panel with plenty of high lubricity wash solution to leave behind a scratch-free finish.

Spray Detailer
Spray Detailers are for removing, Light Dust, Fingerprints, Smudges and most can also be used as a clay lubricant. Light dust is a light accumulation of airborne dust and contaminants that have landed primarily on horizontal surfaces and have not in any way bonded to the paint.

Reasons to use a Rinseless Wash
In a perfect world everyone would have access to free flowing water, warm temperatures, no restrictions on when and where they can wash their car etc.

The problem is we don't live in a perfect world and not everyone has access to free flowing water or has the ability to use free flowing water due to water restrictions.

Here's a list of some reasons for using a Rinseless Wash....

Areas with government enforced water restrictions
In today’s reality, there are many cities and even entire countries with Government Enforced Water Restrictions. In these places it’s against laws and/or regulations to wash your car with a free flowing source of water.

Geographical areas of drought
In some places there may be no official restrictions against water use but the geographical area itself is experiencing severe drought and self-compliance as well as common sense prevents people from using a free flowing source of water to wash their vehicles.

People who live in Apartments
In some areas if you live in an Apartment, a Condo or a Townhouse, there may be no place to wash your car with a free flowing source of clean water or their may be rules against it that you have agreed to comply with.

Washing in cold winter months
In cold weather, extreme low temperatures can make washing a car with a free flowing source of water dangerous and difficult at best.

Mobil Detailers
Rinseless Washing enables mobile detailers to get their customer’s car clean without having to depend upon a water source on location or the extra hassle of transporting hundreds of gallons of water in their Truck, Van or on a Trailer. Besides that some areas require mobile detailers to contain and capture their run-off water and this is an added expense, somewhat difficult as well as time consuming.

Anytime you’re traveling
If you doing any long distance traveling, Rinseless Washing enables you to wash your car while in route.

Thanks for the info guys. So will this replace quick detailers? I don't see the point of quick detailers now that waterless washes are available. It seems like the waterless wash products are quik detailers on steroids right?
You are right IMO! I foolllow up WW with a Spray wax, usuallyy Pinnacle. Results in more gloss & better protection than a QD IMO!

I've sorta replaced quick detailers with waterless car wash and quik waxes/sealant sprays. I bought the gallon jug of DP Waterless to use as a QD on steroids to remove dirt, dust and day to day grime that attacks the paint between washes. I also use it after polishing steps or if I'm going to apply an LSP and the surface has sat long enough to have picked up some dust or dirt. I feel more comfortable that a waterless wash is better protecting and lubcricating the surface during dirt removal. I do suspect that they're harder on an LSP than say QD sprays.

I'm using spray wax or spray sealer (depending upon the car's LSP) after conventional washes when I don't need to re-wax just yet but want to boost shine and protection. For example: on my Blackfire Wet Diamond sealed cars I follow with BF Sealant spray and on the waxed cars something along the lines of Ultimate Quik Wax or Pinnacle Souveran spray wax.

I use Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer and it works wonders, even the black plastic looks shiny as if a coat of wax was applied. Now if Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer works and smells that good, I must try ONR!!!

Buy a gallon. You will love it!

TWO!!! no seriously I love ONR during winter months and for quick cleanups. Winter time I will take my truck through the touchless to get the "heavy" grime off and then use ONR after. Big fan, when I take my Mustang to a show I clean it up there using ONR.

Wouldn't Poorboy's Spray and Wipe be considered a waterless wash? :)

Jimmyjam, you gotta try ONR. Really. It will change your whole routine up.

I know there are some people out there who don't like it and that's your thing but I've washed a lot of nasty cars with it. If it's real bad just be sure to do a pre-soak with a garden sprayer or something.
