Hey all,
I'm just getting started on this whole detailing thing. I'm buying a brand new Mazda 3 this month, and it's the first new car I've had in 16 years. I didn't take the best overall care with my last car since I was 18 when I got it brand new and the internet was just picking up steam, so there wasn't access to all this information about car care.

I decided I want to take good care of this car since I plan on driving it for at least 10 years, which sent me on a research hunt, ultimately ending up here. So far, I've learned a TON reading through threads and articles. Hopefully, it will all pay off in the end.

if you're new to machine polishing and haven't picked up a DA yet, i would highly suggest purchasing one...

I really enjoy old beat up vehicles (not saying that yours is)

Like I was saying, they are really great before and after results.

Welcome to the forum you have picked a great place to learn!

Thanks for the welcomes!

It's on the wishlist, but it will be a while before I feel I can spend the money on one.

It's not in terrible shape, but my old Honda could definitely use some TLC. I could easily get another couple years out of it.

I'm upgrading now because I'm putting a lot of miles in every week, and the boosts in wheel size (14 -> 16), safety features (traction and stability control), and fuel economy are very worthwhile, especially with lots of highway driving in winter.

Welcome, I am new at the forum thing but this is a great place for info. You definitely want to pick up a DA (Dual action) polisher. There are several good ones out there and they are forgiving unlike a rotary if untrained. My 9 yo son helps me and uses my PC (Porter Cable) DA polisher. You can buy one at Harbor Freight for $50-60, but you will end up buying a better one. May be better off buying a good one and saving in the long run.

if you can buy a new car you can buy a DA...it shouldnt be on your "wishlist", it should be on your "ordering today" list. No excuses. You'll never be happy doing anything by hand, its tough work and the results are always sub par
