Dirty Gasoline

You don't know what your getting today,All these branded gas stations and you will see a unbranded tanker fill the tanks,I can't remember the last time I saw a branded gasoline truck tanker .

That's what I was alluding to before, there's no telling what you're putting in your tank, regardless of brand. I remember reading about some name brands that in certain regions of the country, don't have a refinery in that region, and simply buy it from their competition.
 
Yes YES YES - As stated earlier, tanker trucks pull into the refinery, fill up, then depending on where that truck is going determines, if a detergent is added to the tanker truck.

Did you also see the protocol for deposit control?

So a guy runs out with a bucket of detergent and pours it in the top of the truck?

Your link doesn't work, but I read that Wikipedia entry when you first started with this. You do realize that some entries on Wikipedia are written by marketing consultants or marketing departments? You realize there is no real editorial control on Wikipedia? There is not even any limit on who can edit articles, you don't even need to sign in or provide an email address to edit an article. I could go into that Top Tier entry and write at the bottom "this is all verified by RicoRocks" and it would post right up. It's harder to post on this forum than it is to edit a Wikipedia page.

There is nothing on that page that provides any information about this "consortium"; who is actually in it, how and where they meet, where the "specification" is, how it gets reviewed/approved/updated. Is the Top Tier organization a secret government agency?

Yeah, let us know! I'd also like to know if the driver uses a funnel, but that's just me.

Hmm, here's an interesting tidbit from that Top Tier website:

3.What does it cost to sign up for the TT program?
There is an annual fee based on the number of service stations owned by the fuel marketer.

So if this "consortium" was created because of manufacturer's concern for their vehicles and warranty claims, why would it be in their interest to CHARGE participants in the program?
 
Seriously, you realize that you are being manipulated by the marketing departments of companies that make fuel additives, right?

Of course they are going to get the car companies to go along with this, if you ask GM, hey you don't want dirty gas run through your cars do you? They of course are going to say no. As I said, I see no evidence of a true standards organization, like SAE, API, ASTM, etc.
 
Please do not show your ignorance of not knowing what "Top Tier" gasoline is or how it came about. If you choose not to use it then that is your choice. Do not dump on it when you have no idea what it is or why it came into creation. Research will enlighten you but only if you extend yourself.

If you're talking to me, I'm trying to research it but there is NOTHING. A website owned by a test lab.
 
I'll have to find a debranded simple supply chain illustration that we had floating around a year or so ago.
 
For the most part I use Top Tier gas.





if I use gas that is not top tier then its gas that claims to have extra detergents. You cant keep a engine too clean Gas that has extra detergents in them are Citgo and Marathon, they are not top tier. I mostly use Shell because Chevron is not available here. Chevron is the best gas, Shell is second best. Somebody said to use Cosco gas , well Cosco gas is top tier, and there regular gas has more detergents then Shell regular I guess that if most of your driving is on the hyway you can use the cheap gas . My car is 10 years old and has 48000 miles on it and has not gone over 45 MPH in a year , so my car needs all the cleaning it can get.

My sister worked for a petroleum wholesaler in Alabama (not going to list the name). They serviced many different brands and haulers, and while they filled each companies truck, requirements for additives were included. Probably not by the driver, with a funnel, or a bucket, LOL...

This was in central AL and they serviced the Shell stations in my town, in the panhandle of Florida. So, they had to include Shell's "snake-oil". She told me this over 10 years ago...now I have to ask to refresh my memory because that's all I remember...
