Disapointed

never mind i just read it above, i missed a post, Bob

you should most definatley invest in a pc like most others suggested in this thread. i originally had an acura rsx and i attempted to detail and get swirls out by hand. it did not go so well. in fact i did more damage than i did good. for example... i would keep rubbing polish in to get rid of swirls but in turn i ended up putting more scratches in the paint from the polish. if you will not be getting a pc i suggest using products with fillers, maybe a glaze and then wax. it would get rid of the scratches but i will definately hide them.

Bill, I do have a 3200 rpm 10" rotory buffer will that do a decent job if i use the right application bonnets? It was a gift and I've never used it. Bob

Ok Orngez,
what is this you mixed to get the xmt out of the rock chips? I have this problem on our 1998 green van's hood. NOW I know what they are. My husband thought I "did" them!! I told him they were chips, but I could not figure out why they turned white! DUH!
IPA is????
Thanks!
Lauren:)

forgot to mention that if you want to isolate where the 50/50 mix goes a q-tip is perfect for the rock chips if the polish is being stubborn...sometimes a spray bottle or sponge cant dig out the polish...just be careful not to "grind" the q-tip into the chip...just light daps and twists will work the polish out....

Great........but practice first.......get the feel ....read up on the rotary....

10" is big, if your eventually going to purchase a top notch machine as mentioned previously then get the 8" edge 2k pad set with the spindle attachment and you can always use it later on with the machine you buy.if your going to keep this machine you have now??then get the decent foam pads as i suggested, not a good idea to use the cheap bonnets etc that come with the inexpensive machines.......:)

Bill where can I buy the 8" edge 2k pad set? and what bonnets do you suggest for the different applications. I haven't seen any bonnets over 6" at auto-geek.

move to a polisher, if only want to use hand then consider a glaze to temporarily hide and fill marks. I would highly suggest staying away from those big buffers, that is not enough speed nor heat transferred to make difference unless using wool cutting pads and that is very dangerous.

The Edge 2000 Wave 8 inch Foam Pads READ ABOUT WHICH PADS TO USE....

forget bonnets......micro-fiber towels work just as well if not better....

I did a little dabbling with the 50/50 mix and it did some good. Then applied some Pinnacle Crystal Mist it looks better. I'm heading down to W.Palm Beach tomorrow so I'm going to leave it for now. When I get back to NC next week I'm going to rework the whole hood from scratch and then apply a good coat of finishing glaze, two if necessary to fill marks some then go on from there and see what happens. By the way going to west palm to celebrate my mothers 98 birthday. She still works at the hospital 3 days a week. Maybe I'll get her out there and do some buffing. Take care all and I will post when I get back.
