Just bought a new to me 16 tacoma trd black in color. Love the truck but the paint is kinda rough. Swirled up some and the dealership tried to take some out even though i told them not to. I went over the truck with blackfire wet diamond gloss polish and all paint protection and the white hexlogic pads were almost black from the polish. A guy i talked to said he didn't know of toyotas had much clear to begin with and im wondering if the dealership took off what was left. He said the paint is double layered so it doesn't have much clear coat. I dunno. Anyway Im looking to fill in the swirls and not correct them at this point since i dont even know how much clear is left and i haven't done much swirl correction. Ive just used meguiars ultimate polish and not aggressive pad. What im looking for is something that will fill in the swirl marks and i can top with a sealant and or wax. Was looking at the blacklight from chemical guys. What do you guys recommend?
Do i need a glaze?

•3M Imperial Hand Glaze
-3M Perfect-It Show Car Wax
•Mothers California Gold Micro-Polishing Glaze
-Mothers California Gold Pure Carnauba Wax
•Finish Kare 303 Foam Pad Glaze
-Finish Kare 1000P Hi-Temp Paste Wax

I have corrected several Toyota’s (newer) and all of them had a pretty hard clear coats and it took a lot of time to level down it the defects. Being a 2016 I can’t imagine that the clear coat would be near jeopardy if you were to hit is with a medium cut polish. Only true way to tell is to see what the paint thickness with a gauge and from there you can kind of figure out if you should compound or not.
Are you saying that when you polish that you are getting paint transfer from the panel like a single stage paint? Is it possible that the truck had been repainted?

^ This, that’s probably your issue. Make sure you clay bar the hell out of the paint first. Your probably just picking up a ton of contaminates.
You don’t need to be concerned using a white pad either, there’s not enough cutting power there. If I were you I would probably to a 2-step compound polish job to knock down those swirls, they look pretty deep. At the very least use an orange pad instead of yellow with the BF polish you are using if you want to do a single step.

I dont think its going to give you what you want you should just correct it. I'm sure there is enough clear for a medium polish. If they took the clear off it wouldn't be so swirled out. Glazes might fill it somewhat but it won't last long. Just do it right Imo...
Looks like the previous owner used the tunnel wash a lot. You can knock that out even a finishing polish like 3500 would make a big improvement. I'd do menzerna 2500 with a orange light cutting pad then menzerna 3800 with a finishing pad. It would probably look brand new after. A glaze won't do anything on that no way. Call the dealership and ask them exactly what they used on it. Maybe it was just a glaze to hide the swirls. That wouldn't take any clear off.
