Hi all,

I am trying to get my car washing process perfected however I have a quick question -

Is it absolutely essential that I foam wash the car?

The reason I ask is that I have seen various 'how to' guides and video not mentioning this process. Instead, a general rinse with two bucket method and various wash mitts is used.

I was starting to get a little confused and at the same time do not have the foam tool attachment/gun.

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

People were safely washing cars long before foam guns and cannons were invented.

Although a foam gun is not necessary, I do use one. IMO it helps remove the dirt better. I use a foam gun with the 2-bucket wash. I use grit guards in both buckets.

This all might be OVERKILL but now I have no swirls in my car. I would rather be overkill the first time then to be wrong 1 time.

Also make sure you have QUALITY Micro Fiber Towels (waffle weaves and polishing towels).

Again, this is just my opinion. So if it were me and you have the time a foam gun with a 2-bucket wash.

So Geeks bash away!

I agree completely:)

you don't need one people been cleaning there cars long before
It was invented but if you like trying gadgets, is a suds kind of person or just want to try it out for yourself then by all means get one I did but I don't use it as much though only a few times especially when spring/warm weather comes around to start a deep cleaning safely or if I wants to lots of suds that day

As others said, it is not a must but can help add safety to me. If you buy car soap by the gallons, you have plenty of justification to foam either in a foam gun or foam cannon. You can mix APC with the soap or use a cleaning product like Auto Finesse Snow Foam.

Is a foam soak necessary? No
Do I enjoy how intrigued my neighbors are when I use a cannon at home? YES! Lol!

The OP asked:

I believe that there is an actual, real difference...
........(not just a matter of semantics)......
between something being absolutely essential; and:
-Not necessary
-Not a must
-Don't need
-Nice to have
-etc.

I have to agree, no. I've got one but to be honest, I can't bring myself to drag the pressure washer out and set the thing up for the marginal difference it makes. I think washing technique and good towels make more difference than a foam gun. If I had a shop and made my living at this, maybe.

I agree, I have both (foam cannon & foam gun) and use (not all the time, but most).
The WOW FACTOR draws attention (possible new customer) explaining why the foam helps.
I even do rinseless which is more challenging to explain to potential customers, lol
