Do suds matter

As the title suggests... Some body on Amazon gave Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner a bad rating because it "Doesn't maintain suds." I am hesitant to link to it because of AGO's rules, but you can go look it up :)

Anyways: I it got me thinking: Do suds really matter in car soap? I am a long time user of Megs GC, and have found its suds to last along time - however I don't normally prepare the soap in such a way that it suds... That being said: What role do suds play in washing a car? Is it just for consumer appeal or is it truly important?

P.S. I am talking about washing with a mitt, not a foam gun :D
 
It's psychological. I also use ONR (no suds) but I wouldn't want to shower with a soap with no suds.
 
Suds are for show. Surfactants and lubricants are the important ingredients needed. I also use ONR (no suds).

suds are an added effect IME. Like color, scent etc...Ever try 1Z Perls? hardly any suds but a popular shampoo? Coincidently, it can also be used as a 'rinseless' wash. why? maybe cuz there aren't many suds.
 
If suds don't really matter then what's all the hoopla surrounding the latest craze; foam cannons?
 
I've been wondering the same thing Bobby. What are the advantages of foam cannons? What do they really do that a good mitt and your hand can't do?

It's used as pre-soak and some will use a pressure washer after the pre-soak.

Completely agree. Ever take a shower and use a body wash that doesn't sud as much as compared to one that does? I personally feel cleaner when their are more suds.. but who knows, its all in the mind.

Suds safely transport dirt away from the finish. If you splash a mixture of soap and water with your hands, some suds will develop.

That does make sense using foam as a pre-soak then switching to a washing mitt to finish the job if you don't have a pressure washer.
