I'm new to the detailing game this will be my first detail on my ride so I figure its going to take awhile especially on my truck.I live in an apartment and its not as easy as going out in the garage and going to town. I was thinking i could break it up into a few days.My truck (black 2005 F-150 8ft bed) sits outside but i do have a truck cover (that i never use but can be utilized for this project).

Day 1- Wash, dry, clay bar, clean tires and door jams, apply stoners trim shine to all trim (let dry for a few hours) tape off trim and clean windows. Cover car and start up again next day

Day 2- Apply wolfgang total swirl remover 3.0 with orbital, then go over again with wolfgang finishing glaze.

Day 3- Apply DGPS 3.0. I figured i'd have to do that on this day because after polishing with both swirl remover and finishing glaze it will be later in the day and dew will begin to set in within the next few hours. Not sure how long the polishing will take. Feed back please

Please give me some input on what you would do. Any suggestions or tips for his "NOOB" would be greatly appreciated.

I would apply the Trim Shine after polishing because the tape may not stick after treatment. Nothing wrong with doing the job in steps. Have fun and post some pictures when your done.

Thanks for the input rsurfer. I was thinking if i let it dry a little it will stickq a little I dont need great adhesion as long as it stays put. I will def post pics

I'm not a professional at this, just a car enthusiast who likes to keep my vehicles looking good. I recently purchased my latest toy, a 1989 MB 560SL and, after getting my boxes of supplies fro AG, I set out to change my newly-acquired, previously well cared for, prize from clean to sparkly. I did all this about 10 days ago, but I think memory will serve me pretty well.

Day 1: Vacuumed, brushed, and rinsed the fabric top before cleaning it with RaggTop cleaner. Next, I washed and dried the entire vehicle. By then, the top had dried sufficiently, and I sprayed it with a coat of the RaggTopp sealant. Next, I hand applied a 3-step coat of wax including cleaner, sealer, and glaze(?). I think it's called glaze, I didn't look at the 3rd bottle for this. My arms and shoulders hurt like the devil the next day, but it turned out very nicely.

Day 2: Covered the leather upholstery with the rejuvenating coat of a Leatherique. Before placing in the sun for several hours, I put a second coat of RaggTopp sealer on the top. Late in the afternoon, I wiped off the Leatherique, and applied a coat of the cleaner as per instructions. One again, everything turned out very nicely.

Day3: Thoroughly vacuumed the carpeting, etc. before detailing the inside dash and trim with 303. I know there are other products used by many members here, but I've never been disappointed with the job and the look of 303. I even used it on the tire side-walls. Cleaned the chrome bumpers and trim, and then lowered the top to place the 3 step wax on the boot which is inside the car while the top is up. Cleaned the glass.

The only things I have yet to do is to get some UTTG for the rubber bumper strips and trim pieces, and decide on something to improve the look of the wheels. BTW, I couldn't have done any of this so successfully without the folks here!

Yes.

I don't have the energy to finish an entire car in one day any more.

I will wash the car and then correct, seal and wax on a defined set of panels based on the amount of time. The next day, I will QD the entire car and then hit another set of panels (or wash if dirty enough). I repeat this until all surfaces have been touched.

What do you do if you drive it in between it being finished? Simple QD to take of dust?

Luckily I have a garage. But it's surprising how much dust and air born crap sits on the car overnight. I'll break stuff up into multiple days, I'm always wiping with UWW+ or OptiClean.

A helpful tip now that you have thoroughly cleaned your top: ONR in wash bucket and spray bottle, and MF towels to maintain between washings - blot and dab, - instead of weekly deep brushing. Extends the life of the sealant and top.

As its been said already of course you can brake it up over days im sure you'll find almost everyone here does so even a week lol I know I've done it more than once! Just like anything it comes down to common sense? If it rains, windy days you have to drive it more than likely. You might have to re wash in between but go for it.. ;)

Thanks everyone for your help this website is an invaluable asset in my growing detail "armory".

I broke down my trailer in a week and a half.

So if i wash and clay my car and only polish a few panels in 1 week and apply dgps 3.0. Should i apply it to the whole car even though in the next week or two the car will be washed and clayed again and polish a few more panels. Or do i just apply it to the panels i polished. I just feel like its a waste if its getting polished off shortly after. But i also dont want my truck to look like crap. Any input?

No posts on this one ...hopully dont mess anything up going to work on it in thE am

If you want to add protection, I would just add it to the sections you finished. It will save you time that could be better used for polishing. I would probably go back and update the entire car once you finished to get an even fresh coat.
