Do you guys wash all of the towels you use together no matter what you used them for?

Would it be a waste to do separate washes for towels that were used for say, wax, wheel cleaning, rinseless washing, etc.?

when you have a variety of towels from a detail just rinse them good and soak them in a cleaning solution then wash them all together theirs no harm done

Never. I have three towel buckets.

1. retired towels and interior towels.
2. towels I have judged to be 2nd grade.
3. premium towels, cost more than the towels I dry myself with.

So far I have without any problems. I believe if the MF detergent is doing its job, there should be no problem washing them all together.

For a weekend warrior/ hobbyist like myself it seems very wasteful to wash the towels separately. For very soiled/dirty towels I usually soak them in oxy clean for a few hours before I add them to the other towels to make a larger load. I always use a dedicated microfiber detergent and add a small amount of white vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser. On the other hand if I did this for living I would wash the towels separately

I see no reason why my best towels cant be cleaned with my worst. In the end they are getting cleaned so why does it even matter?

1 load for polish and lsp towels.

1 load for everything else.

1 load for glass only.

Oh god no!
You don't want your rim towels, that contain pieces of metal, road grim, etc.. to be mixed with your paint towels that need to be pristine when touching paint.
Also you don't want wax on your window towels.
Geesh, don't give out horrible advice, just horrible to wash all your towels together.

aaaa, good advise.
To add, I wash my grimy towel 3-4 times, my MFs 2-3 times and add vinegar to the rinse.

And THIS!

I have three levels of towels (not including high end towels) and bins to match. My every day towels are judged during and after each use. If they get too dirty they go in another bin for interior work or less than paint duty. Dirtier yet and they go into a bin for jambs, sills, exhaust etc. Beyond that they are just rags suitable for engine compartment, brake jobs and other duty where I'll just throw them away after the next use.

Of course all heavyweight high gsm towels are paint only, (many are LSP only) and don't get dirty in the first place. ;) They always get washed together.

nope..paint only towels get wash with each other..then all the other Misc towels get washed with each other. Even when dirty I dont mix them together. they each get own laundry basket.

I've never had an issue with my wax/polish removal towels getting "cross contaminated" with other dirtier towels. Seriously, I'm not going to have 4 different loads in the washing machine for at most 6 or 8 towels in each one. What a waist! I can understand if you're going through microfibers like crazy, but for the average guy I find no need to do anything like that.

I am in the 3 classification group as well. I wash the glass/drying/mitts more than the rest.

I wash all the towels together in the washing machine using dishwashing detergent. The applicator pads are hand washed.

I think if the towels are really bad you shouldn't put them in with the good towels. If you do a nice pre-soak and then use some MF soap and put oxy clean with a heavy load cycle on it will wash and refill water in the machine aprox. 3 times. That should be enough to get out all the dirt and grime off your towels. I have no problems with this however, I judge my towels after every use and if they are that bad, they just get tossed or used for some nasty job.

I wash mine all together with regular Tide Free and Clear. I do enough "car wash laundry" as it is and this is just a hobby for me. I've never had a problem. If I set the machine to heavy duty and dbl rinse it seems to really get towels cleaner if they required it from their latest use.

Now, if I was doing this for a living, I would most likely do seperate loads.

If you really want to get AR...

Separate water soluble compound and polish towels from water in-soluble products like waxes and sealants.

Then separate

Glass
Wheels
Cotton from Microfiber
Drying microfibers although I usually mix these with glass microfibers

I separate by color too but we go through quite the volume that it's cost effective when making small loads.
