Does anyone else hate when people try to pretend like they know more??

90% of what my Dad taught me is/was correct. I was just to damn'd bull headed to realize it at the time.

Nowadays people will ask, "Where'd ya learn that Bill?" My answer...The Old Man.

Bill

Very true right here.

Ah, so true. Had this experience this past weekend. I was trying to get some buffer trails off of my roof and my dad comes out and says "You make the simplest things into an art form" and then proceeded to wax my car...removing the wax with an old bath towel. The next day, he's asking for my polisher, pads and compound to polishing up his music trailer. Nevermind he went through two pads, since he knew going into it he'd have to buy new ones.
It's a give and take. Sometimes we're wanting to throw hands, but we both know that won't last and now he's glad I bought the polisher. He's still a bit stuck in his early days of turtle wax and rocks in a bottle, but he's coming along nicely.

LOL everyone thinks I am going against my dad or something... no, not at all. My dad and I have a fantastic relationship and I listen to him on everything else, but this is just one subject where I know more than him as his techniques are a little more old school and dont give optimal results...

For crying out loud, you just don't get it.

It's not about his old techniques, it's about you complaining about him while living free in his house. And, I hate to break it to you, nobody your age should blather about "optimal results." You can tell me about optimal results after you've polished a couple of Pebble Beach winners and have 20+ full time years under your belt.

I am not going to argue with you anymore about this. It was merely a vent about how I was getting peeved by my dad. That was ALL it was. When or where did I complain about him other than THAT? No where. That is the only thing that ever peeves me about him so for me to have a vent is a little less of a deal than your making it out to be.

Moving on. Don't need to argue with some seasoned veteran anymore. :urtheman:

This is the time to use the old stupid and cheerfull approach.Tell dad with a smile that he's probably right but you just prefer to do it this way and let it go.

Where in the heck did I write garageless people cannot have detailing opinions???? I make a point over here and you respond to something way over there. Let me simplify for those who slept through English class.

As long as you are using dad's garage for your detailing business, and living in dad's house which is attached to dad's garage, and not paying rent and eating free:

You have no right or expectation of privacy. Don't want to hear dad spout off? Pay for your own garage, house and food. Until then, keep it to yourself.

and get a haircut you damn hippie

You've got a G35 sitting in YOUR garage and your dad comes out to talk to you? Are you sure it isn't sitting in HIS garage?

If your dad is letting you use his garage for your detailing (for free, right?), just keep quiet. When you grow up, pay rent or buy your own garage, you can have an opinion.:buffing:

I've got a g35 in my garage. 17 an it's mine and paid off with my money :P

I was just on an internet forum where someone said they needed help suggesting how to remove some road paint from thier hood and fender wells. Well one guy chimed in saying use a scraper and repaint the wheel wells black.
I told the person that it was not needed and to use a clay bar on the hood and to use a good cleaner and stiff brush on the wheel wells. Well the guy who posted about using a scraper got all pissed off and says he cleans high end cars every day and that it doesn't scratch the car at all and I don't know what I am talking about.
Ugh... just can't stand when people think they are right and give people advice that's going to damage their car.

In a previous life, I taught Psychology at a private college in Georgia. One of our experiments was to go to a retail store and ask questions of the sales people. Each student chose a topic they knew well and the exercise proved people (at least retail sales people) tended to make statements that were just plain wrong. It was fascinating, amusing and sad all at the same time. I concluded it was a common theme running through humanity. And it irritates me to no end.

Agree. I hate it when people give bad advice.
Detailing is like a hobby.
I can do it all day, and the time flies by +
the results are amazing.
