Does anyone else wash cars at a car dealers lot? If so, share your stories

Yes, the Chevy dealer that wants me to wash their cars has Chevy, Hyundai, VW , used cars and Special Finance. Right now they just want the Import lot washed which includes 140 VW Cars not including the Hyundai cars. The last car washer took 10 days at 8 hours a day to wash just the Import lot

That's because of poor process. When I worked for a commercial car lot washer many moons ago we did a Chrysler lot of around 500 cars one time in about 10 hours. Spray and wipe though. I Dont see the dedication to the meticulous process here when their detail guys are just going to swirl them up during sale prep anyway.

Who told you about this ???? (joking) I havent even had an opportunity to "test" the unconfirmed newest soap that is supposedly PH balanced a perfect 7, while providing loads of foam and lubrication to make the Gilmour Guns a must have for 2006. Shoot with the Poorboys Suds ... it was nice and slippery already.

I don't do it. It would cost me $ to do it.

I work at a dealership. The guys that come wash our lot are paid 0.66 per car (150 cars). They are in and out in under 2 hours. These cars are power washed and dried. Then when a car is sold, we have our detail center do a full detail. The one thing many of us detailers need to realize is that not everyone needs our services. A dealership is one of them. As a dealer, we only care about selling cars, not detailing them. Hope there is no offense taken.

How in the hell do they spray and dry 150 cars in 2 hours? Lol

How many people?

That's only around 100$ for the 2 hours...

If it were me, the proposition would be this...

I will send a couple of my guys to spray off and dry your lot for $1 per car...once a month. I don't make any money on that, so....

In exchange...

-You send me all of your detail referral business

-You send me any overflow from you in-house detail

-You place one of my cards in each of your new vehicle purchaser packets

That is a great idea if you can get the dealer aboard. Most dealers act like they are doing you a huge favor by 'letting' you wash their cars for pennies on the dollar.

The ones I have seen are using:

-Team of four guys

-Pick-up truck with a water tank and Deionized Water System (Culligan)

-Power washer

With the DI they don't have to completely dry the car.

If you are paying your guys $10 and hour you basically break even.

That's about how quickly they do it where I work. One guy uses a pressure washer on a very long hose and sprays them all down, then about 3 guys follow up drying them.

This is great advice for detailers to get referral business and I agree it is a great idea. My problem is even though I have detail in my business name, I only want to wash cars at a dealer, but I'm not sure if it will be profitable
