Does every car need paint correction once in awhile?

I've got a GG. 6" RO and it works great. I've used their pads as well as Optimum mf compound and polishing pads as well. I also have LC tangerine and blue cyan pad but haven't had to use those yet. Either way, the GG machine has a lifetime warrenty and when combined with their customer service, its THE one to get....IMO!

I've made a commitment to never needing to machine polish my car and so far so good.

An admirable goal, but unless you drive it very little, it's not entirely under your control. Just from driving over the course of a year, you car gets pelted with zillions of atmospheric dust particles and grit raised from the road by the cars (and especially trucks) that you drive behind and next to. If you live somewhere windy (or in my case, with dust storms), it's painful to listen to all the grit pelting your car as you drive through it.

Another thing I've noticed, if you drive after a good rain, but the roads have just dried, the rain apparently loosens up the road grit because the sound of the grit hitting your paint (due to the cars you are behind or next to, raising it from the road surface and flinging it back) after a rain is almost as bad as driving through a dust storm.

It's also not helpful that thousands of cars that were driving in the rain just got "mother nature's car wash" and all the debris from their cars ended up on the road surface.

You've also probably seen the threads where people have such soft "rice paper paint" that clean microfiber towels apparently instill some scratches. Fortunately I've not experienced that.

The moral of the story:
Don't get a car with soft paint, only drive on paved one-way country roads with no traffic, don't drive on windy days or after a rain, and you'll be fine ;o)

A few tips on starting a part-time detailing business
Match your services to your customer

I could sit and read forever, loving this place!

That's actually an article I wrote to try to help people new to the business side keep things in perspective. Too often new detailers want to do multiple step procedures to grocery getters and while there's nothing wrong with this the person that owns the car won't appreciate all the time, products and work that went into it and the guy doing the work won't make a profit.

This forum has helped me immensely! Between your write up and everyone's contributions I have learned a bunch in a very short while.

It also helps that everyone here is very nice and eager to help others.

Too many forums are filled with people who play the role of internet bully and police.

Thank you for sharing the above and sad to say you're right about how most forums no matter what the topic have a handful of in-house bullies. I'm happpy to say we don't have that problem on this forum.

If nothing else, I'd have a bullet-proof workhorse PC DA polisher, some low profile 5.5" foam polishing pads, and a good cleaner-wax to apply twice a year. You will be amazed at the results (after you'd washed, decontaminated, and clayed).

So, is the extra power in the GG 6" orbital worth the extra cost over the 7424XP?

I have never used the GG machines, but I can tell you that I was always very satisfied with my PC7424XP until I replaced it with my Rupes. I still use the PC for small pads (3" and 4") as well as applying glaze, sealant, and wax.

Brian, I put this in the "sale" thread too but if you'd like to try out a GG and / or a Flex, I'm in Orlando. You're welcome to take them for a spin prior to purchase if you like.

Good luck...

I've only used my GG 6" RO but keep in mind the GG has a LIFETIME WARRENTY! Also, for an extra charge, they'll install a 25' cord on it too.
