Does salt and road chemical cause rust ?

YES SALT WILL CAUSE RUST. Salt is the worst thing for cars. I would never buy a car from the north just bc it's been in salt and will be full of rust. You would need to was your car every time you drive it through the salty roads to help prevent rusting. my friend bought a car from the north it was an e-30 3 series bmw from 1986 and it had so much rust on it it was shocking. Now my brother has the same car from the same year and it's been a southern car all it's life and it has no rust.
That's the best example i can give. one was in salt and the other wasn't. and thhat's the difference.

You mean the ones that the tires an rims are worth more than the car......

$3000 of tires and rims on a $500 car....

Don't forget the $2000 stereo on top of that....

Pretty much hit the nail on the head there. Blinged out with chrome also.

Could keep going but probably best to leave it at that lol.

Would a solution of white vinegar and water work? Not sure how much but I think that helps remove salt.

My in laws live in upstate NY, and every car over 5 years old, has some kind of rust. And a lot of the older ones, have body panels missing.

Yet another reason not to live in NY. Though now even Atlanta isn't safe from ice and snow, I guess I'll be looking at Zillow for homes in AZ.

Yup, we get one of those most years. Just that this year it was fairly early. Normally we'll end up with stuff starting to bloom, IE mid March and WHAM we get a freaking freezing rain/sleet storm and it'll shut down the town for 4~5 days. Snow you can drive on, ice.... not so much.

My wife had to take me downtown today to the doctor, (I've blown a lumbar disc REALLY bad this time) and it's amazing how much ice is still out there, some 3 days after all heck broke loose!!!!!!

Crappy timing too because I need a guy to run a buffer, like NOW! Need to polish out an old Jag, brand new paint, just needs polishing so we can coat it. :) (Send anyone you know and I'll put him to work!) :xyxthumbs:

You learn how to replace brakes, brake lines, fuel lines and gas tanks real fast.
Two years on front rotors and they are solid rust.

Funny you should mention that. I changed front brakes on a 2002 F-150, it took me 20 minutes a tire, and 20 minutes a rotor, with a lump hammer beating them off. That was the longest it's ever took me to do front brakes.

Mixing baking soda with water is a good way to neutralize the road salt.
