In my case it's Collinite 476 being topped by Beadmaker.
I use the beadmaker often.

Even tho it is shiny and beads water real well does it still have good paint protection?
Is it a good idea to re wax every 4 to 6 months despite the shine and beading?

Waxed the wife's car this week and was wondering if I was wasting my time and
abusing the paint/clearcoat for no good reason.

Live in southern cal so not much rain till Dec. but will have lots of heat.

Any and all replies appreciated

Continue waxing. Beadmaker offers little to no protection so with wax you’re at least getting protection. Do it every season as waxes don’t last that long.

Wax every 4 months as Bsoares recommended, use BM as much as you like on top.

Definitely not abusing paint applying non-abrasive wax. You were on a good track.

I would suggest at least once a year to use a good one-step cleaner/wax and then top with the Collinite 476 wax.

Paint gets a dirt stain build-up over time. If you never polish the paint or use a one-step cleaner/wax, then re-applying a NON-cleaning wax will seal over the dirt stain and your car's paint will actually grey or brown in color over time.

One of the most common articles I share with others,

Road Film - If you drive your car in the rain your car has road film

Driving in the rain - For most of us it's unavoidable

I didn't mention that I bar clayed and polished with Griots Ultimate Polish before the waxing.
The abuse that I was concerned about was too much polishing.

Once a year polishing and wax every 4 months sound good to me.

Thanks everyone

I use to polish and clay every 8-12 months but realized it’s overkill where I live. Even after a year I don’t pick up barely any contaminants and there is only minor swirling. I’m starting to polish every 12-15 months now and it seems a bit more warranted in that time lapse.

That's kind of what I've found as well. Since I mostly use coatings I've been doing a full clay and polish detail of my vehicles around the 18~24 month point.
