A. All home car washing must be done with hoses fitted with spray nozzles with automatic shut-off.

B. Use of water for washing down driveways or walkways is hereby prohibited.

So can I assume that the small pressure washer has an auto. shut off?What ever happened to innocent until proven otherwise?Even if these kids were pains in the neighborhood cops should`nt respond to a potential violation that appears not to be one.(Especially two cops).I guess they have nothing better to do.

Once I went through a license checkpoint, cop says I need to see your insurance and registration so I take off my seatbelt so I can reach into the glove compartment and hand it to him. He gives me a ticket for not having on my seatbelt. And I was being totally respectful. Up until that point I donated money to several police charities annually but not anymore.

Well I have known a bunch of them over the years and was related to a few.

It's not even about all of that, you respect the badge and what they represent.

Now if they make a mistake then that's when you can file a complaint etc.

You have to remember Cops aren't Lawyers so they really don't know everything....

I agree. I have more important things to than argue with cops and fight bogus tickets in court. Just say: "Thank you, officer. You guys are doing one hell of a job!" and go on about my business.

It wasn't one cop. It was his partner that was standing next to him who lied too. It was their boss who backed them up.

Someone shot a deer in my driveway. Shooting right at my house. I call 911. Cop shows up 2 hours later. And does nothing. Another time, I'm riding my bike and stop on the side of the road to rest, the homeowner calls from the house where I stop and says I'm trespassing, a cop shows up in 3 minutes and chews me out for stepping onto her yard when I was 2 feet off the pavement. Why would I want to support this. I redirected my funds.

In short things do happen in life, there are countless innocent people in Prison, but there are one heck of a lot more guilty ones.....

The system isn't perfect and the Police are people just like the rest of us. That badge doesn't automatically make them perfect either.

Yeah there will always be some that are jerks, but they don't tend to last very long over the long haul typically.

The best we can do is make any kind of interaction as pleasant as possible so they can get back to doing something else.

That Police officer can get a lot of calls in a day, what one do you think he will remember the most.....?

The complete idiots that he had to deal with all freaking day or worse...

Or that one that went peaceful and nice with no issues and maybe getting a thanks from the person....

I lived in Garden City for several years. Lots of rules. Everyone who lives there is fully aware the tolerance:quality of life ratio.
It's a great place to live and raise a family. This guy should have just complied with the officer's request and contemplated how fortunate he is that the GCPD doesn't have much else to do.

A now-retired colleague of mine moved to a nice little subdivision after retirement near a lake and bought a boat. His neighbor is an older gentleman who is in a power wheelchair. He got a ticket from the HOA because he was working on a project in his garage and had his van (equipped for his wheelchair) parked out on the street. The problem? The van was more than 7 years old and thus, could not be parked in public view.

To each their own I guess! Those aren't 'laws' per se, but as you have signed a contract to live there, they would likely win the case if you chose not to pay the 'fine'

In the video, the guy looked like he was driving a previous-gen crown vic. The Crown Vic ceased in 2012MY (2011) to be replaced by the "Ford Police Interceptor", which is a Taurus body on a modified Ford Escape chassis. Most municipalities have gone to that, or the GM or Chrysler offerings (or even an import!). I don't think you'll see a municipal police officer, especially of a middle-class area, in a police cruiser that old. A Crown Vic perhaps, but only the last generation Crown Vics. Most places keep cars for 2-3 years and that's about it. I live in a small town with only 3 police officers on patrol during the day and 2 at night, and they've already switched to the "Police Interceptor", though they did keep one of their 2011 Crown Vics as a 'backup'. Personally I think it's a waste of money and those cars could be used a lot longer (they are built like tanks, the Crown Vic Police Interceptor / Taxi-cab is probably one of the most reliable cars on the planet)... BUT- my armchair detective senses tell me that's a rent-a-cop.

We have one local subdivision that uses 'rent a cops' like that, has strict HOA's, etc. They use late 90's Ford Rangers! LOL.

I guess if that's your thing that's your thing. You don't have to deal with junk cars or trash in peoples yards. But then- you can't be an eyesore to them either! As I said in the chatbox, I had a neighbor who thought she was a genius by using an old minivan backseat as furniture on her porch. (Her landlord made her get rid of it). But, to me- that's not any bit uglier than peeling clearcoat and rusted cars. And- if I demand they make a law banning re-purposed porch furniture; then I'm sure someone can find something I do that they don't like. Maybe the wreath on my door is too ugly or I put my Christmas decorations up too early! Heck, my wifes car is 12 years old; in some HOA's, we wouldn't be allowed to park it outside!

Secondly, the cop seemed like a reasonable guy. Maybe it was the video, but he seemed like he didn't want to be hassling them for this, but was just following the ordinance as he understood it. I am not sure that the cop was right about "public place", but that is his understanding. I would probably thank the officer for the heads up and call the City manager's office to get clarification.

Just as long as I can take the imagine without stepping on to your property and I'm not violating any other laws in doing so. So the law does get finnicky when it comes to things in plain view of a public place. For example, you can't run around naked in your front yard- even if it's private property!

I watched the video again. You are right. When the cop is reading it he says Public Place. Then when he is discussing it, he says public view. I would bet that the ordinance means that you can't wash your car in a parking lot or in the street, etc. which is a public place, but you can wash it in your driveway which is in the public view, but is not a public place.

I would have turned the pressure washer on the second they left.... And I would take that to court... Hell I'd be surprised if I could put my garbage can out front there without receiving a complaint..

That's really sad that those two officers were wasting those peoples time and tax dollars doing that..

Exactly, I'll never understand the just bend over and take it so they go away mentality. We have rights and no badge can trump them. The police office stood there and read the law/ordinance word for word. No washing in public places not public view. We need to stand up for our rights not roll over so the cops/who ever goes away.
