Double failure on a 2014 black Nissan Maxima... ugh

I think it would be better to get a Porter Cable starter kit. They are less than $200.00 and will be all you need. They come with pads, pad cleaner, swirl removers, glaze, and towels. They also come with Auto Geek help(youtube product specific instructions) and customer support staff. The staff has helped me many times. The you tube videos use a step by step process with the same products in the kit. When you are done you can keep all the kit ready for what ever attacks your car next.

That really stinks,if the whole car is like that expect 450 at the minimum to fix ,I know you stated low on funds the dealer is gonna have to eat it .Get a written estimate from a skilled detailer, and one from a body shop which we all know not to let them touch it,but there estimate maybe higher than the detailer good luck let us know the outcome.

This is rough. I see guys at my dealership that don't even wash a vehicle before taking the rotary to it. They call it "dirt buffing" Makes me cringe.

You can do it,invest in a dual action polisher with pinnacle compound and polish and the right pads, you will pick it up quick your probably gonna spend at least 400.00 ,the benefits are you can polish your car for years to come and have the tools you need.Check out mike Phillips u tube videos prior to polishing good luck and have fun.

Yes correct why didn't you inspect the car prior to delivery. They kinda have you ,you signed off already best of luck.

I was stationed at Nellis AFB a few years ago. I know of a guy that does work in the north Las Vegas area. His name is Jace Price. Let him know Mike sent you from AutoGeekOnline.

I remembered that you were at Nellis, thanks for coming through Mike.

This is most likely your best bet unless you want to invest the money and time into learning to do it yourself, and that's considerable time and $$$. It will take you a considerable amount of time to learn how to perfect black paint. If you lived by me I'd do it for $250.00 :buffing:

I'd checkout Mike's guy and go from there.

As I mentioned above, even tho I signed off, I had a week to return the car for no reason. Meaning if I did not like the sound of the exhaust, or the color of the light in the dash, or I just noticed that it was missing the passenger side door, I could have returned it within 7 days. No reason needed. That is what I signed. After 12 hours of signing I contacted them and let them know I do not like how the exterior looks. At that point they said they will take care of it, fix it for me. Had they not said that, I probably would have returned the car.

Anyway, I really appreciate all the great suggestions and support here! What an awesome community!

I really would love to learn the process at a DIY level. Not just because of this situation, but for the future. It would be awesome to find somebody who I could pay to do the hood or top while I am there, watching and learnin, then I could try to do the rest by myself! :):coolgleam:

I am pretty sure I could win this case with the dealer, the question is if I have the energy/time to fight with them. I will figure it out over the weekend.

Once again! THANK YOU! I will go and wash the car, because it went through 2 polishing sessions and not once was the interior touched, the wheels hosed down or the door/trunk opening wiped. And yes, by looking at it, I am pretty sure clay bar has never touched the paint. They probably did not even wash it before getting started.:eek:

Don't sweat the small things in life it's too short best of luck to you,and the situation.

Another thing you need to find out is if your car has Nissans "self healing paint", I had a black 2013 Ifinity G37x and the paint would scratch just by running a microfiber towel over it, it was that soft and finicky.

Looks like a boatload of rotary holograms and some light swirls. Guessing it didn't even leave the lot, probably the dealer's own staff screwed that up in 2 hours for $15/hr.

I am sad to say I will be bookmarking this thread to show clients what paint should not look like after a detail.

From the photos everything looks pretty shallow and should easily be removed, just a matter of how much paint is left after 2 hack jobs, the clearcoat may already be compromised.

I would simply return the car if you can still do that and get something else without all the added work this purchase will cost.

Hello!

Again, I appreciate all the support here. You are all awesome! Finally I decided I would give it a try and attempt to correct the holograms by myself. Not feeling like fighting with the dealer :/ I will write a letter to headquarters and also a yelp review, but that is as far as I will go.

Although I did hesitate between hand and machine application, I decided to get a Porter Cable 7424XP. I do have some questions tho. And most likely will have some more along the way... :)

First about the machine and the pads. There are million offers and bundles with this machine and wondering if the 6" would be a good choice.
What pads should I get (was thinking orange for the hologram cutting and blue for polish?). I did find that Nissan Maximas have a pretty (if not very) soft paint (no, not self healing).
The products. Oh my, oh my... so first I was thinking to get the Megs UC and UP, get the porter cable kit with the Pinnacle pad cleaner and conditioner, but then I found a kit with the wolf products and have read a tons of good things about them. That kit would come with orange and black pads, 8oz Wolf compound and 8oz polish...

I will need to clay the car even tho it was just polished twice (probably without even being washed), won't I? Megs clay?
decisions... decisions...

Uhm... how do you do the top panel of the car? I mean I can not even wipe it all the way, can't reach to the middle... Do you use a step ladder and lean on the side? :)

Wax recommendation?

This is it for now, trying to get this project (shopping cart) together.

Thank you! Have a great afternoon :)

Wow, those are some serious buffer marks! Certainly don't bring it back to the dealer. If they didn't do it right the first time, what makes you think they will do it right the next time? Every time they take a machine to your car's paint they are removing some of the clear coat and there's only so much they can remove before it's all gone (and there isn't all that much to begin with). This is borderline vandalism, in my opinion, as these people are negligently damaging your property.

I've become a bit of an expert on black Nissan / Infiniti paint this year as I've fixed a few cars that looked just like that after someone inexperienced hacked it up. Their formula for "buff and wax" might work on most cars that come through their shops, but it certainly does not work on black Nissan paint. See this thread:

Your first step is to determine if you have "scratch shield paint" which is a proprietary paint system offered by Nissan. Lift up the hood and look on the underside towards the cowl, you should see a sticker that designates this special paint.

If you do have this paint, and I suspect you do, have no fear because you can easily tackle this project yourself. The Porter Cable should do the trick no problem. When you order, ask that Autogeek substitutes in 5" pads and the proper backing plate. I would recommend the green Buff and Shine pads (Buff and Shine Green Foam Polishing Pad - 5.5 Inch). They have enough cut to get out the damage and they are soft enough that they won't mar the paint. I would also recommend HD Speed (3D HD Speed). It's an all in one cleaner / polish / sealant. You won't need any special wax after you use this product, it protect the paint as it polishes. Lastly, invest in good high quality microfiber towels and treat them right.

There are videos readily available about proper use of the Porter Cable, give them a watch. I would imagine you can do this job yourself for somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 bucks and an afternoon of your time.

Did they charge you for dealer prep,if so demand money back.

Thank you so much for you words, I really appreciate it! Gives me some hope and I will definitely keep you updated! You did an amazing job with that Infinity! WOW! Mine really looks similar to that.

No, they did not charge me, they were supposed to get the car paint corrected from all the swirls on their cost... pfff, they did that alright! No swirls can be seen from all the holograms!
