DP Paint Coating Initial Observations

Yes, I prime the applicator then put a few sprays on the hood and wipe in large motions across the half the hood. For the other half I use an additional spray and always start to spread where I sprayed product. I always apply the coating in up/down & left/right motions.

Then wipe over the entire hood with a clean MF.

The entire hood would take probably 30-45secs to coat. With the product in a bottle there is no downtime to apply more product to the applicator.

Thanks Wors, this product has me intrigued, so its basically like applying WOWA products I take it? If not, anything different? I see the 2' x 2' area is recommended but when I use BFCS I do a "drag spray" and then wipe the entire fender, going over and over it a couple times to ensure complete coverage and to wipe it in real good.

Yeah I never use foam when applying. BFCS because I too worried about it soaking into the pad. Not only that but when I did try a foam pad to apply BFCS it would drag across the paint, this is why I use cotton or mf applicators.

Now those of you who've used it, when your done with the car how does the paint look? Would you say it finishes like a sealant where the paint has more clarity or "pop", looking almost fake or does it leave it with a natrual glow like that of a nuba?

I'll use the description mentioned on DPPC release, it looks "glassy". Like you sprayed a layer of lacquer. It makes the paint look thicker, shiny, and super slick.

I agree, to avoid wasting to much product the right applicator works great. 3 cars and the bottle still seems full.

Thin applicators like the gold finger applicator.
Gold Wax Finger Pockets

or foam block + suede
CarPro Suede Microfiber Cloths, micro cloth, microfibre

or Optimum Dual Pro Applicator

The red applicators would work. One caution to note is the applicator might absorb quite a bit of coating product.

This is another one of my favorite coating applicators:

Use the dense side. This applicator absorbs very little product.

The seed is more than planted for me now, will end up getting some over the winter as I've got the Collinite tripplets to try for the winter, along with my DG products but this has me thinking.

Since its a product that lasts for up to 2 years what would happen if you topped it with a nuba or hybrid product where its syn and nuba? If it changes the look would your "glass look" come back after your topper wore off?

These are fairly expensive foam applicators. So I'm assuming that the DP Coating won't crystallize in the foam and can be washed out and reused. At $4-7 each that would be a significant cost per car if they're unusable again.

I haven't had a problem re-using applicators. I have used the gold finger pockets so far and just spray with Megs APC+ right away, agitate, and rinse. No issues so far.

Exactly. According to another thread you should probably discard the foam applicator or use it for something else besides applying a coating. If this is the case I would rather use the cheap, thin, yellow foam applicators at 12pc for 2 bucks.

If you want to use the CarPro foam applicator and MF suede. Purchase the 40x40cm suede MFs and cut them.

Why are you guys not re using your app pads? I just wash mine between uses and have had no issues

That's what I used to do with Opti-Coat, and never had any problems with the applicator. More recently I've just been using a little square of the blue Scott shop towels, and throwing it away after (at least for small areas like headlights, etc.) Thanks to Anthony Orosco for the Scott towel tip.

That's what I'm saying but maybe there's something different with this new coating. That said, if it does last 2 yrs its not like that pad will be around next time around anyways.

See post #6

Haven't used my DP coatings yet, still gathering intel.

I've seen post #6 and don't agree with it. Have not noticed any difference with app pads that I've washed. Washed them days after applying the coating as well so they had plenty of time to dry. Used the washed pads for the same thing as well and it wasn't composed paint marring coating shards. :)
