drill for polish: why not?

POWER.

for instance, the makita you linked has a 6 amp motor.

The Dewalt 849X has a 12 amp motor.

Makita 9227C - 10 amp motor.

FLEX PE14 - 10 amp motor.

GG 6" RO - 7 amp motor.

What's the difference with:

1. this: Makita® 1/2 in. 2-Speed Electric Drill | Princess Auto

2. plus this: Makita Hook and Loop Backing Pad-743052-5 at The Home Depot

??

I can see quite the same height of the holder, you can change the speed (here 2 different speeds but there are drills with a speed pot) and you can screw the backing pad on the drill arbor...

1. Why would you pay for that drill when you can get a real DA that is made for the polishing for less than what the drill costs?

2. Most people don't use the side handle on the polisher they put there hand on the head of the machine so they can control the proper amount of pressure applied to the machine and maintain proper control as efficiency at possible.

Even if you become the worlds greatest user of a drill to compound and polish cars what have you accomplished? You will have mastered a skill that will still be significantly less efficient and extremely slower and more fatiguing than just using the right tool.

You need to spend your money and time wisely. I recommend you get Mike Phillips book. That will get you a great base of knowledge to start from.

This: Meguiars DA Power System
is a drill-motor attachment that converts the drill's "rotary action"...
into a "random orbital action"...much more paint-safe, IMHO.

-Of course you can use whatever drill motor/attachment,
on vehicles' paint, as you see fit.

The Meg's power DA system might be good and all but, I don't think anyone would rather use it over an actual DA polisher. It takes long enough to polish a vehicle, let alone if you were to only use a 4 inch pad on a drill attachment. I'd pass on that. You'll end up spending as much, if not more than what an actual polisher cost, and your results will not be as consistent with a drill.

I can't see if this works well. How can you judge that work?

It doesn't show here but it made a difference, just as if it was my DeWalt 849x or my DA.
The point of me posting my video was to show a drill can be used to correct paint but only for smaller areas, I wouldn't dare try to do an entire car using only a drill.
Great to use on headlights, bumpers, any small or tight areas of the car.
Also works good Polishimg door jams. :dblthumb2:

I have to polish a small area. so this is the tool that makes for me!

I use a drill for the door jam and tight spots my Rupes Mini can't reach. I also use a drill with mother's power cone to polish out swirls on my forged rims.

But DA for everything else
