Driving behind someone, what frustrates you?

People texting while driving.... And they all weave all over the road.....

Coming to almost a complete stop to make a right turn and after they cut you off then slam on their breaks to make the right turn... Happens all the time were I live....

People who don't know how to enter or exit the HWY correctly... They are supposed to fall in behind because they are supposed to be slowing down to exit and speed up to enter..... Not the other way around like I see tons of people do around my area....

Not using turn signals...

Hogging the left lane on the HWY when going Under the speed limit... I mean at least do the speed limit if you are going to be in the left lane..

Going way under the speed limit on 2 lane roads....

School Buses on the HWY... Extremely dangerous and creates a real hazard because they have to go so far under the speed limit at 45 mph. Specifically getting on and off the HWY... and around the exit ramps etc...

Aggressive drivers... Just an accident waiting to happen.. A real road hazard...

People that run red lights.... Happens a lot around were I live....

No turn or lane change signals. Too slow in left lane. throwing junk out the window. Playing with cell phone, especially when turn near me.
Double parking to say hello to friends.
Blocking drive ways.
Weaving in and out.

Most drivers suck. Driver licenses are too easily given in most states.

Just to throw something out there...

In a survey, more than 90% of drivers felt they were 'above average' drivers. Therein lies the problem. This thread is further proof of that. Some of you may be great drivers, but all of you can't be. So we can infer that it's likely that some of you (or myself) are critical of other drivers whilst being dangerous, discourteous, or otherwise a poor driver ourselves. When 90% of people think they are better than everyone else at something, they won't take a critical look at themselves and improve themselves!

Maybe this doesn't qualify for 'driving behind someone', but I cant stand when people have their windshield wipers on hurricane mode when its barely drizzling out.

Don't know why it bothers me, but I cant stand it; especially when I'm the PASSENGER in that very car that has hurricane mode going!

I agree with you there

You are correct. We all screw up, but some people screw up more than most.
If is still too easy to get a drivers licenses in this country. By far the worst drivers are kids and young people 16-30. Look at the traffic ticket and accident number or ask your insurance company who is the worst - they have the numbers

I agree. And it doesn't save the time you think it does.

I did a little 'experiment'. I had a conference to go to. I left on a Thursday at 4PM, and left to go back home on a Monday at 4PM. Here's the kicker, I live about 2 miles from a particular interstate, and the conference was 300 miles away, about 4 miles from that same interstate. So quite literally, it was nearly 100% interstate. On the way down, I set a stop watch the moment I got on the interstate, with a full tank of gas, cruise control set to 65. Recorded the time when I got off the exit. On the way back? Same thing, only at 75mph. No stops for gas, just straight shot down interstate.

The results were less than 2 minutes apart (what some would call a 'margin of error!) in favor of the 75 run, and 3 miles-per-gallon apart in favor of the 65mph run. Why? Because you can't maintain even 75. You'll get stuck behind two 18 wheelers trying to pass each other up a hill for 12 miles at 55mph, and you'll simply speed up to some cluster of traffic you have to jockey around. Doing 65, for the most part, you can cruise along in the right lane the entire way. Better fuel economy due to lower speeds and not changing speeds, and in the end, it didn't save me any meaningful time (10mph faster netted me 2 minutes. TWO MINUTES on a 300 mile trip). In THEORY, if there was no traffic whatsoever, I'd get there faster doing 75. But the reality is, there IS traffic (and I very rarely, in either trip, fell below 55 or 60 mph and even that was very temporary waiting on trucks to pass each other. No rush hour / bumper to bumper type traffic)

So you just don't save anything doing that. Being aggressive about it is just silly. If you wanna speed, more power to ya. But there are passing zones. Calm down, you'll get there when you get there! Leave earlier next time!

While I somewhat agree with you, I didn't get either of my cars to get MPG's. I really don't care about that, so driving 10 mph slower to get 3 MPG's would not interest me. Devils advocate here, that is two extra minutes though that I get to spend with my kids that day, and the $40 extra I paid in gas would be worth it to me.

Here in Montreal they have been lowering speed limits for a while. Right now in the city the speed limit varies between 18 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour... the problem is that some people drive 18 miles per hour OR SLOWER everywhere. I don't know if it's because they are scared of speeding in places they might not know is the lowest speed limit or some other reason but it is SO ANNOYING following someone driving 15 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone!

I agree with pretty much everything you guys wrote. The other really annoying thing for me is people not using their turn signals or using them incorrectly. For instance, someone stopping at a red light and waiting for the light to turn green before putting on the turn signal. When I see someone about to turn left at a red light, I change lane so I am not stuck behind them when the light turns green. When they do that I am the one turning red when the light turns green ;)

Texting doesn't seems to be much of a problem around here. Sometimes people take a while to react when light turns green but I am not sure if they are texting or not. I have not seen the other behavior mentioned above for I am inclined to think most people don't text while driving around here.

What I hate, here we have a stretch of road that is 4 lane and 40 mph and then it goes to 2 lane and 55 mph. People fly in the 4 lane and get to the the two lane and drive 40 mph or slower. It makes me want to scream.

People that cannot, FOR THE LIFE OF THEM, seem to read the road signs (and obey them)!!!

In the square of our town it's all 1 way, counter clockwise. Out of 8 'feeder' roads on the corners 6 are 1-way either in or out. The signs when going West on the main feeder (that's 1-way) where it meets a 2-way coming East, are "Take Gap - Give Gap" where the East bound traffic has to turn South, or the West bound has to turn South. (West bound is 2 lanes and one can continue to go West.)

Yet you will always end up with some jacka$$ that can't figure out what "Take Gap - Give Gap" means! Either not from here, or usually women driving minivans, and perhaps texting! Some women, from some parts of the world, are FAR worse! (And it's not just on the square.)

With all of the snow that we've gotten in Chicago over the last two days, it's people that refuse to clear snow off of their entire vehicle. They wait for the defroster to clear the back window and don't clear the tail lights. Lazy and unsafe.

Yup, kinda hate getting blasted by huge chunks of snow flying off trailers and trucks.

WHAT!? :bat: jk :)

I know but I thought you got stuck behind me and read my plate CPT SLOW, LOL! I never speed and drive conservatively 51 wks out of the year!

It is only -12 today here and people think that they must drive slower cause it is colder out than normal. Really!!!!
People that pass you then pull in front of you and hit there brakes so they can get back down to the speed limit.

That's actually illegal here. I doubt it's enforced though because I see a lot of vehicles covered in snow all the time.

I clear what's on top, but don't scrub. I do know what you mean though as i've had what appeared to be snowballs being thrown at my car :nomore:

For me, the worst is when someone (in a turn, or even parked) RUSH in a dangerous manner to enter in your front, then start to drive slow... If you are willing to drive slow, why not just wait the traffic and enter behind?

Saw a BMW with both the headlights and taillight covered yesterday. I'd bet good money that nobody on this forum would be that lazy and careless. They were endangering themselves and other drivers.

MadMerc and Genesis Coupe, left to go to work yesterday @noon and it normally takes me 20 mins but yesterday it was 36 mins (290 to 53 on into Palatine) and was taking it easy in the right lane because I guess its asking too much to clear ONE lane after the snow let's up! My DWS' have about 35K on them and last rotation I was 6/32nds so pretty good shape still but everytime I would shift the car would pull to the right so I would shortshift and it still did it....which brings me to the thread title, when someone sees you doing this why do they insist on maintaining 1/2 car length behind you, my God Chicagoians are impatient!!

My rear Blizzaks are at the 50% wear mark now, so i put them up front, and put the 10mm smaller Dunlop M3 Winters in the back since they are only 2 seasons old. Gonna pick up 2 blizzaks before next winter.

Winter tires or not, when i turn off the traction AND stability in the Genesis i am sideways without even turning the wheels. Pretty cool if you are doing it on purpose :)
