Driving behind someone, what frustrates you?

Cool story Daven, just glad it didn't go any further than that for sure. I hate when people do this but its an all too common thing here in Chicagoland, even semi drivers are aggressive but God knows where they're from though, so can't lump them altogether for sure. I drive all around Chicagoland all afternoon and into the night and it still amazes me how people don't know how to simply turn on their headlights, daytime running lights aren't lights, they only turn on your brights at a very reduced wattage and nothing else. These new cars must have dashboards that light up when the key turns, making the driver think the lights are on when they are not, this is dangerous and its usually a Nissan, Hyundai or Kia vehicle, just sayin'.

Yea, I refuse to take things further unless the person damages my vehicle.

YES! Thats another thing! I saw a lady driving a WHITE explorer, covered in snow, without lights on, I watched as she actually went to the same place as me, so I pulled up to her and saw she had 2 very small kids and offered to clean off her car for her. She said sure, i did and she thanked me and I told her she should have her lights on as in blizzard like conditions its very hard to see her, she thanked me and seemed to have no idea. Little things go a long way. Im 22 and I can take spending 10mins outside cleaning a car off.

On the headlights thing, I know what ya mean, my old saturn had a light that showed up because the DRL were on and it acted as my "brights" light too. So when the lights were off, it could be mistaken as if your lights are on and your brights are on! I wish people would just realize. Also clean off their cars lol.

Side note, I also hate when people have their brights on cause they have a headlight out. Go to autozone, buy a bulb, they'll put it in for you. Theres no excuse. I'll gladly flash people when they do that sort of thing.

Yep, cool.... sorta'. ;)

I'm glad, and actually somewhat surprised it didn't go any further than that.

Daven, I'm surprised that worked that close to Chicago. I mean down here, some fool flashes their lights at you (if your in Atlanta), you better darned well not flash them back! You'll likely get SHOT!!! Gangs even play that as a game, just to see if they can get someone to flash back, than "put a cap in 'um". I don't get it!

Of course much has been said about the murder rate in Chicago. Back in 2012 it was 6 times that of Atlanta, 512 versus 85 I believe. Although you could also go to the per capita numbers that I think may skew towards Atlanta being higher, per person that is. :dunno: I just know that having that many people involved in such a senseless crime doesn't make any sense no matter where it is.

It happens all the darned time around Atlanta. LITERALLY!

Another story; I had a guy I used to know good Lord, back when we were in our 20's, was late 70's probably. He had one of those 3 cylinder 2-stroke Suzuki's that seemed fast at the time, (top speed for 77 was upped to 120). It was faster than my first bike, a little Honda 360T, but nowhere NEAR as quick as my KZ900 I bought around 1980. ;) That puppy would run 120 with a full fairing and TWO of us on it and keep pulling!

Anyhow, he was coming up I-75 one evening after work, right before sunset and three guys pulled up behind him and started flashing their lights. Then they would get in front of him, then beside him, then back behind him, and this went on for a while. He first tried to outrun them but the bike wasn't quick enough. Then he figured if he just slowed down to less than the speed limit they'd go on and leave him. (The speed limit back then was 70.)

So after 10 miles or so and the three of them staying in the lane next to him, no matter what speed he would go he was fearing for his life. They were openly taunting him and telling him they were "going to get him". So he reached in his leather jacket, pulled out his .45 and unloaded a mag straight through the fender into the engine. He said they started saying right quick they were just kidding, and saying all sorts of stuff that I'd imagine was like "Oh man, be cool". :dunno:
Last he saw them they were sliding sideways in the median!

What he did was stupid and irresponsible! But what they did was put a grown man in fear of his life. (He was a good 5~6 years older than me.) And yes, it was racial. But then you really didn't hear that much of that unless the parties involved were just thugs (and thugs come in all colors). Stupid comes in all colors too, my little brother was 11 years younger than me and he was so stupid (doing stuff that would get you in trouble, no big stuff... just stupid misdemeanor stuff) that if you looked in the dictionary under "Stupid" you'd see a photo of him! Which is the reason he is no longer with us. Drugs do KILL!

These days however you hear weekly about people getting killed for nothing. Look at someone and they shoot you. Say something to someone and they shoot you.

All I can say is these kids don't/didn't have the same Mama and Daddy that I did! In the words of Aretha Franklin, "R-E-S-P-E-C-T find out what it means to me".

Again, cool story, just be careful.

It isn't illegal here. Not sure, but I don't think it is illegal to text and drive either.

in California, if you're even caught with a cell phone in your hand while driving, you will get a ticket. depends on the cop if they really want to push the envelope and I'm sure they've heard every excuse in the book...

What state is that awful city in again? Georgia? Pretty sure you should be better armed than the people who don't pass background checks ;-).

I want to know who the F thought of brining the roads before winter storms?
It doesn't do crap except melt the first layer of snow that comes down, causing a thin ice layer to form.

That, and when they just do it, it gets salt water all over my car :bat:
Yep, this just happened last night on my way home.

Just followed behind a guy with his rear passenger quarter panel hanging off and flapping in the wind. I was praying hard it didn't decide to fly off and hit me.

I hate whenever ANYTHING is flapping under someone's car.... clean that S$%& up!!!!!!

Funny you say that..Back when i was around 16 years old i saw a Ford Aerostar driving to the right of me (on the highway), and next thing you know the entire engine falls out and hits the floor, now dragging on the road!!! Scared the living hell out of me as it shattered the oil pan and the metal was just grinding on the pavement. Scary thing!

Holy crap! I would have bailed

Yeah, I hate when trucks drive with wiring from their hitch flapping in the wind... ###? Why is it like that? I've had several truck that I tow with and NEVER have had anything hanging down! :bash:

Although it sucks when the city/county puts down salt or brine on the roads as it gets our cars all crusty there is an alternative that involves body panels not aligning, color not matching and orange peel. I'd rather lay down a coat of protection on the car in the late fall and just maintain it through all that mess. Look at it like this, when the car is covered with salt and sludge and you go to do a rinseless wash guess what's underneath....a shiny ride!

Are you saying if they didn't put it down there would be accidents? There are tons of accidents everyday without winter conditions being involved. All it does is cause damage to cars. Accidents happen, but we can avoid corrosion by not throwing stuff on the ground that causes it.

i would love to have a baseball bat and hit the signal lights from the one`s who don`t use it :)

You just reminded me, i need to buy LED turn signal bulbs.

The only time i dont use turn signals is when i am the only car on the highway at 3am lol

I honestly think it hurts more than helps.... I feel like it melts the first bit of snow that comes down... then it freezes when more snow comes down and now you have a slippery layer under the snow. :bash:

And don't get me started on what it does to cars

I work in Downtown Chicago and often walk to get to other sites, lunch, and sometimes train. Those plow trucks that also salt sometimes spray it out so thick that it covers the entire roads, and sidewalks. Because street parking in Downtown is preffered, you ALWAYS hear large chunks of salt hitting cars body panels.

Imagine if the truck is on your side and sprays the salt, from a short distance it will definately do some damage!

Oh yeah, the salt/plow trucks here go flying by you in the opposite lane of traffic and the salt chunks pelt your car

I'm usually in the truck when that happens and I try and swerve over out of the way as much as possible when I see them coming.
