I have read a lot of good things about Duragloss 501. When reading the description though It says that it is for marine gelcoat. But it seems that a lot of people use it for clearcoat cars? Why wouldn't I just use 101 for my car instead of the marine 501?

Drew

Yes, there are thousands of 501 users---it is safe and effective.

You are correct, it is a Marine/RV polish. What sets this product apart from 101, 105, etc. is the nano abrasives and the outstanding chemical cleansing power. If you're not sure about it give Jerry a call at Duragloss on Tuesday and see what his opinion is. :)

after I use DG501/601 on my white yaris and after market rim, the colour is brighter. I use it on the whole car, from window to trim, all good.

Hey guys had a few quick questions. I am going to mix 601/501 in a 1:4 ratio. I am going to be using a PC and White pads. My questions are:
1. Should I do the entire panel like a wax or a 2 x 2 area like polish?
2. How many passes should I make
3. Can I use this as a AIO or should I really add a sealant over top?

Thanks,
Drew

Hi Drew,
I personally work DG 501 a little more than wax but less than polishing. I can tell you from first hand experience that it is possible to over work the polish. If I recall correctly I used speed 6 on my PC XP with firm pressure and left Honda paint striped like a tiger. I would suggest maybe speed 4-5 at most and between 3-4 passes. It is safe to work the whole vehicle at once but I highly recommend inspecting each section before moving on. You don't have to follow up with anything for 5-6 months if you don't feel like it. I do but I'm usually going for max protection.

Two people on this board can give you more tips if needed, Richy (richy) and Sal (sal329). Let us know if you need anything else. :)

If you top it with a 601/105 combo how long will it extend the protection? How long does 501 take to cure if you wanna doe so? thanx

601/501 flashes immediately. youy can top it after wiping it off. i use DG AW after wiping off the combo. helps give a nice deep shine and also helps me make sure i removed all the 601/501.

I don't want to give the wrong impression in case things don't work for you, but I personally achieved 9 months protection out of 1 application of DG 601/105 before failing on the front bumper and top of trunk lid of all places. Our car is garaged at night but sits outside all day while my wife is at work, faced road salt during the winter and touchless car washes on average every 2 weeks, along with hand washing on the weekends. I would imagine you could see 9-12 months depending on storage and care but your results may vary from mine. If I was doing an application of DG 501 I would mix it with DG 601 Polish Bonding Agent to flash cure it. My process was always to wait 2 hours between 501 and 105 but after consulting with Richy I started following after removal and noticed no degradation in performance.

You got it. :xyxthumbs: I always do a final wipe with DG Aqua Wax after using Duragloss products, even door jambs.

door jams is my last step with the AW. i want to make sure there isnt any left over product(601/501) on the edges as well, and plus i love clean and shiny door jams!

I have a question about 501...if you use 501, can you go straight to DG 105, or do you have to put the 601 bonding agent in the equation somewhere? Does the 501 prep the surface enough to go straight to 105?

TIA

if you use 501 (by itself) then yes you need to wait a few hours
if you mix it with 601 at a 4:1 then you top right away.

Iuse 501/601 mixed
then 105/601 mixed

Then I top with coli845

all steps can be done right after each other with no waiting.

hope that helps you Spike.

Thanks Tim! So if I understand correctly, the 601 is like a curing agent where you don't have to wait like 24 hrs to apply the LSP after applying the sealant like you would with regular sealants like BFWD for example?

And sorry to the OP if I seem like I'm hijacking your thread...I just seem to have the same curiosity about 501 like you do! :)

you got it! 601 helps it bond and really enhances the duability of the already awesome 501. use them together! 601 is cheap and really there is no excuse not to use it as a combo.

the only thing i still hate is cleaning the pads when i am done, but that is which any sealant product huh =)

:iagree:cleaning is pia...I remember Richy saying he uses a solvent to clean his pads not sure what he uses....but could be a option in cleaning.

I clean the best I can then in a zip-lock bag for the next time.
