Duragloss Photo Thread

They call it a bonding agent but in reality, from what I understand, it flash cures the sealant so you can top it immediately. I always want that last coat to always flash cure because sometimes I can't keep the car in the garage to cure overnight.

I usually do 601/501, 601/105, then top with either aquawax or a quality carnauba wax. If you don't use 601 for the second coat then you can't top with something else right away.

Now I understand, it is all about when the top coat can be put on as a matter of time - thanks!

Well even though the DG clear seal isn't available here, yet, in theory you could use another version of a clear sealant like BFCS over the top of a nuba and apply something like #105 or #111 if you wanted to.

A week has passed, and it is time to wash the truck again after several rain storms in previous days. I had some Duragloss 901 left from last summer since my last use. I thought I would try it again since I have all Duragloss products on this truck now.

A year ago, I quit using Duragloss 901 because I was getting quite a bit of spotting on my glass. I have used Optimum car wash since that time and it is relatively spot free. It leaves a clean non glossy look.

I used Duragloss 901 today and made special effort to dry the glass fairly quickly with my master blaster at 1pm in sunny 80 degree weather. I had improvement this time and only had very minor glass spotting. I really like the additional gloss that Duragloss 901 leaves. I have read on another forum that some shampoo's contain silicone gloss enhancers and some do not. I assume 901 has them.

I believe I will keep using Duragloss 601/501 and 601/111 along with Duragloss 901 for shampoo and Duragloss 951 Aqua Wax as a topper a time or two per month. These products seem to work well together. So far real happy!!

I did not reapply Duragloss 951 "Aqua Wax" this time due to just applying it last week.

Heres the photo showing the nice gloss of 901. This downsized photo appears to have lost 20% of sharpness from original which looks crisper and glossier.

I guess because of the size of your truck you don't wanna use DG rinseless?

I can see where a rinseless wash would work well for vehicles that stay on pavement.

This vehicle is on pavement most of the time but is driven on gravel and dirt at a farm sometimes as well and gets muddy. For that reason I tend to stay with a traditional wash.

That makes sense but what you could do there is hit the quarter carwash to get those wheelwells rinsed out as well as anything caked up, head home and use the rinseless wash, just sayin'.

I've never tried Duragloss, but reading these posts has me interested.
How does the Duragloss 601/105 combo compare to Collinite 845 in terms of looks, durability, and ease of use?

I'm looking at getting Aquawax, anyone know the durability of it? Thanks!

Perfect combo. 901 with a touch of ONR. The pics speak for themselves. Wow.

I can't speak about the durability but I will say this about AW, it always seems to look better 30 minutes after you apply it. I've also sprayed AW over the top of #111 to remove it and apply AW at the same time....if that makes any sense:-P

I just returned back to Chicago from Detroit and I need to do a rinseless wash and I'm going to apply a coat of AW to the car, it deserves it after the 700+ mile drive, the later saw a steady rain.

You'll love AW....WE DO!

IMO, DG 105 may be easier to work with than Collinite and looks great, but can't compare in terms of durability. The DG501/601 combo is my absolute favorite for DD maintenance since it cleans so well, but I follow it with either 845 or 476 for max durability. I recently did an orange Honda Fit that had a dealer detail six weeks prior, including machine polishing, and was still amazed by the deep cleaning of 501. It'll be back this weekend for a coat of 476 and then it will be fine for months of daily driving.
I'd swear the guys at DG mix some magic chemical in 501 that makes your pad turn dark with friction, 'cause no matter how clean the paint appears to be, 501 leaves you with nasty dirty-looking pads when you're done.

I too noticed how well DG #501 cleaned when I did my spring clean-up. After doing a rinseless wash and clay barring the DG #501/601 combo was put into service for the first time and I did it by hand as I have no access to juice in the parking structure at the apartment we live in and besides that didn't really see a need to do that anyways. I plan on using DG #501/601 after every claying, it just does the job!

Thanks Bill, I appreciate your answer.
Is DG 501 similar to 105, except with cleaning agents mixed in with the sealant?
Do you apply DG 601 (Polish Bonding Agent) first, allow to haze, and then 501 on top of the haze before buffing off the combo?

501 is without a doubt becoming a must have step for me either after clay or polish. Nothing I have ever used cleans my paint like this. Your paint will look like a mirror every time. Even using it 2x a year, its amazing how clean you think your paint is ....until 501 proves you wrong.

Here are some threads worth reading that go into detail about DG 501/601/105:

Both 105 and 501 would be considered cleaner waxes, but 501 has more emphasis on cleaning, while 105 is less of a cleaner, but more sealant. I've never used 601 as a separate step. If I want to do an entire job in one session, per the advice of Officer Richy, the DG guru, I use a 4oz. squeeze bottle, fill it 1/5 with 501, 4/5 with 501 and it's more than enough for one vehicle. I can then do my finishing wax immediately (usually Collinite) saving a step.

Here's a shot of my winter beater Oldsmobile after a DG Rinseless wash on a mid-forties temp day in mid-January (notice there's sill about 6-8 inches of snow in the background). I had done a DG 501/601 polishing, followed by Collinite 476 in early November.
After a typical Pennsylvania winter, I still had some level of protection into April, when I did my spring cleanup.
