Duragloss questions

I've decided to give Duragloss a try as a replacement for my Zaino.

After reading a lot of great info here, I've decided to use the following...

First, 501 followed by 601, and then a couple of coats of 105. Do all you Duragloss users feel that is a top notch combo for looks and durability?

Of course, I plan on using the 521 detail spray frequently, and an occasional coat of the 951 Aquawax. Does the 521 detail spray really enhance gloss as some other detail sprays, or would the 921 Fast Clean be better choice?

I'm assuming I can still use other detail sprays like FK425, QuickShine and others if I have the notion... correct?
 
I think the Duragloss line is a fine product line, but not quite up to the look of the newer Zaino Pro line. They are much cheaper however and do follow the older line quite well. The paint cleanser, followed by the bonding agent, and then the TPP sealant seem to be the combo to beat in that line. Some love Aquawaz and clearly a competitor to FK425 and others you have named. Nice thing is they are interchangable as wanted. I prefer the Fast/Clean from Duragloss for minor spots and still go to Z8 for sealant boosting.

Duragloss's soap , wheel cleaner, and odor eliminator are best products in the line. Here is a pic I did with the older Duragloss product, I believe it 111 (white box, blue sealant)

501 + 105 + 105 works, no use for the 601..

I got the Aquawax, fast clean and shine and the RV 521.. I use the Fast clean and shine after reg washing, and then the Aquawax once a month..ive not used the RV one yet, but its seems like some likes it alot

Yes you can still use the others cleaner you got

Interesting... I was hoping that the Duragloss combo I mentioned would rival Zaino's new product line.

I would like to switch for a couple of reason. First, I would prefer to do more of my business here at Autogeek. Secondly, I think it is ashame that Sal can't sell some of his stuff in bulk sizes (at least quarts) at a reduced price. After all, he has some very loyal followers that deserve a bit of a break.

Do you feel that the 111 gives a better look on lighter vehicles than the 105? I currently only detail 4 vehicles... 2 light colors (white and glacier blue), and two dark colors (salsa red pearl, and dark blue).

Anyhow, based on your input, I may have to rethink my decision. However, that SUV sure looks nice! :D

A lot of Zaino users that have tried DG say the 105 looks just Z5 pro and the 111 looks like the Z2....

The fast Clean & shine is the cleaner QD for DG...The Aquawax has no cleaners at all.....so for periodic cleaning I would use the 921 and for a monthly spruce up AW 951.. also the Marine Detailer is a bit better than the 921 as far as cleaning but also is a bit slicker and has more gloss to it...

The 111 gives a look like either Klasse SG or the Z2...very glossy but lack of depth....

If you live in a warmer climate and no snow and salt..then 501-105-105 will work fine....

The bonding agent is a 2 way product..it cleans the surface of the paint...and also the product that you leave on the paint is a catylst..it works with the polymer in either 111 or 105 to make the shell coating harder and more durable....it even states on the product description...think of it as a A+ B epoxy type mix...

I do have Zaino...both the Z5 Pro and Z2 pro...with the ZFX...and it looks good..but I could not tell the difference between the 2 products....Zaino or Dg with just 2 coats

I have also use ZFX and polycharger on the 105 and worked well....polycharger was a bit hard to buff of in regards to plain 105..ZFX had no problem buffing off.....

I did purchase a Ultima sampler kit to try that out on a friends car...I would try on my truck but winter is coming and I know nothing on it as far as durability..so will stick to the 105 combo for winter..my friends car is garaged for the winter before snow flies....and mine is not....

Thanks Al-53... I live up north, where we do get a log of snow/salt. What would you recommend different than 501-601-105 for that type climate?
 
For 2 of my white cars I have used the following....601,105,111. The 111 seems to add a little more gloss to the white cars. If you really want to protect ur ride in the winter I would add some IW 845 from collinite. I recently added a top coat to my work car which stays outside 24/7 and gets put through hell. After 2 days of rain and 3 trips through the swirl o matic it still beads like crazy.

Thanks... looks like I will have to try the 111 on the light vehicles, and 105 on the darker colors.

I still have some One Grand Blitz carnauba around, and will use it as my topper for the winter months. It is very similar to the Collinite waxes in durability, and I prefer the look of the OGB.

you can tip the DG combo with a good wax....The Blitz will do fine its rates as good as collinite..with the DG and wax you will be very protected.....I tried the 845 one winter..it worked good..but fell shorter then a paste...The paste got a month or more over 845....I like 915 or the Fleetwax....both go into spring for me....very good stuff...Blitz will also..great wax

Yes OGB is a fine wax... a little finicky like most of the durable paste waxes, but a fine wax nonetheless. I used it as a topper over "numerous" coats of Zaino for the winter months, and that combo was pretty durable. :D

Do you also feel that the 111 is better choice (for appearance) on light colors like white, silver and light blue?

I still prefer #105 compared to #111.#105 seem easier to use..collected my #521 marine/RV yesterday..smell like sour plum to me,coluring is similar to AW.. Immediately try on my car..wooo,seem more glossy than #921 to me..

I like the look of 105 better even on white...Sparkie has used 105 on a few whites shown here in the forum and also a few others and it looked very good on white.....

If you do the 101 or 501 then the 105 on light colors you will get a very nice look....I have switched to 501 myself for the great cleaning action and good durability of it and then topped with 105 and results are great....the 501 really gives a very wet look to paint and also seems to brighten it up...I guess the cleaners really clean it....

Al I just picked up some 501 what speeds are you working it in on? Are you working it in or just spreading it around. How long does it take to break down?

Looks like I'm going to go with the Duragloss wash (901), clean and polish with the Duragloss Marine Polish (501), seal with TPP (105), detail with the Marine Detailer (921), and maintain with the Aquawax (951). That sounds like the optimum Duragloss process from what I can gather. Do you agree?

I'll skip the the 601 and forget the 111.

Bags has a good question. How do you work the 501. Because it's a cleaner, I'm guessing that you run the PC at 2.5 to 3.5 with a finishing or polishing pad, and work the area with light pressure to simply spread the product... correct?

you can use either a white CCS pad as it will do a little correction since 501 has micro abrasives...like slight marring...or it will act like a finish polish ...or you can just use a blue LC pad ....but I use speed 2 or 3 ...depends on the paint.....but no higher or it will flash to fast....

Do you prefer to apply the 501 by hand rather than using the PC?
 
At speed 3 about how long does it take to flash? Im in cnetral FL and right now the humidity is high and a tropical system is moving through so its about 70-90%. I am gearing up for my wifes expedition this week end I was going to use 501 and add a little something extraI have finial finishing polishes and menz IP and DP SSR and FFP. Since the truck is cashmire it is tough to see the imperfections it also has pearl flakes in it. AL should I mix it in a bottle or use 3 drops of 501 and 1 drop of IP? I think Im going to go with a white 4 in ccs pad. I plan to finish it up with 601 105 111 and top woith collinite IW. The winters down here arent that brutal. PS still waitng for AL DG guide.. :)

best to try the speeds and see where it goes...3 has worked for me here in hot humid weather......if you want to mix on the pad do 2 drops of the either IP or finishing polish and 3 of the 501....if you want to mix it in a bottle...do 4 oz of the 501 and 2 of either menz polishes....also the 105 would be better than the 111 as far as looks go plus last longer....then go 845....after a day or so.....


Detail guy....

If the paint has been corrected and I just want to clean it say after a few months..I do by hand..I use a polish pal and a blue pad or even a white for extra bite.......or even a Megs yellow applicator pad they stick to the polish pal....

if the paint is real dirty..I use a PC on speed 3....but you may be able to go higher if not hot and humid..but 3 has worked perfect for me....I know Sparkie has used speed 5 and said it worked fine...
