I have seen many thread where people ask about dust and quick detailers so I thought I would put up some pictures of how much is too much.

I tried capturing photos of the amount of dust that would be safe to remove with a QD but the metal flake on the Malibu interferes with capturing it. I would say if you have about half the amount of dust you see in the pictures you would be safe using a QD and high quality MF towel.

These are all pictures of dust that IMO would not be safe to remove with a quick detailer. I would recommend washing the car with an ONR type wash or a traditional wash. Also if you have an air compressor or metro blaster you could blow most off and then hit it with a QD. I went with blowing it off then safely using a QD and pakshak MF towel.

BTW this car had Opti-Coat applied and was wiped down with FK425 shortly before going down the dusty driveway that caused this. Don't fall for the anti static hype that some quick detailers claim ;)

This is a great thread and I think will help many with questions relating to the issue of whats safe to remove with a qd. I think if your in the city probably 3 days is max after a wash to use a qd, and if your in the stix it could be 3 minutes after a wash lol :)

A good thread indeed, bust just a few questions from a new guy.

1.) Is california dusting it first, then QDing an option?

2.) What about water spots? I accidentally parked near a malfunctioning sprinkler and got a find mist of the hardest water ever on the side of my car.

I am not a fan at all of the California dusters, I cringe every time I see some poor sap using one.

Sure you can try a QD on those water spots.

:iagree:

As I began reading this thread and looking at the photos I was thinking that there's way too much dust for a quick detailer. In my mind this is a perfect example of when to use Optimum No Rinse or Detailer’s Pro Series Rinseless Wash & Gloss....

Fine minds think alike! :props:

Nice test! I have to disagree about the antistatic properties about FK425. I have noticed a real difference in the amount of pollen that sticks to my vehicle when i wipe it down with FK425. Now it's not a ton, but it is there.

Good review none the less, you know, other than it being wrong LMFAO j/k

Noobs need not reply

FK425 is a great QD, but it is not a magical forcefield. It's anti-static properties are basically that it contains distilled water, which I think to the OP's point is a bit over-hyped. That said, FK425 is still a staple go-to product for me and I am not a bit surprised that it didn't overcome the force of a dusty road, not sure why anyone would have expected different results.

I love FK425 and I didn't expect any different results, its other people that expect that ;) I was just adding my thoughts on the whole anti static claims that a lot of people believe.
