I've read where after polishing and waxing a car dust seems to collect on the surface. I searched and then tried using a quick detailer and a microfiber towel. It looked good but then as night set in, you could see a light film which looked to be where I had wiped the dust off. It will wipe off with my hand but won't with a dry microfiber towel.

Did I do something wrong? Is it just more dust that settled on to a not fully dry car from the QD? Any ideas?

Dust attraction caused by static electricity. FK425 QD has some anti-static properties and may help. Black Paint=Part-time job.

Did you fully remove the QD? Is it parked outside? Cars get dirty very quickly and dust will settle on top of your car regardless of how dry it is.

Dust on a black car = get used to it. Pollen in the spring too. I just use a QD if its a light film before I go drive it the next day. I love my black car but its the price you pay to own one..

ONR or any other rinseless wash should make quick work of getting rid of all that dust.

And maybe it's just me but it seems like my car stays cleaner for longer after I ONR it

Well I guess I will try some ONR. Maybe the QD didn't dry completely and dust settled on it. The car is kept in the garage so I figured it would be ok. After all that work of polishing it this just ruined my day. I've even been driving my wife's minivan to keep it from getting dirty. Oh well back to work on it.

Black = Dust = 425 FK it will help more then others but don't expect miricales that's coming from a guy who had a Black Corvette that was a labor of love

Dust is inevitable on a black car. Best way to get rid of it is "no touch" using an Air Force / Master Blaster. You can just blow it off (most of it).

If you wipe your car down every time you see dust you will be doing it daily and inducing more marring.

Just step back a few feet - or, switch to a coating.

:iagree:

Try to touch your black paint as little as possible to prevent marring. I just deal with the dust until the next time I wash. I do like Swanic says, just stand back a few feet!

As Swanic said, if you want to go the coating route it will attact less dust. Or try some Carpro Reload. I believe it is an inorganice spray coating that will not attract so much dust. It is not a real coating but can be used as a stand alone.

I always think I made a mistake buying a silver car and wish I would of ordered black instead........then I read posts like this. Black cars- they're either the dirtiest on the road or the cleanest, no in between.

Well this is my first black car, yes it gets dirty fast, but it is beautiful when it's clean. I'll just have to get used to the fact that it will get dirty, especially for a daily driver. With my house on top of a hill and the garage door facing the south, I won't ever be able to keep the dust off.

Read Mike's article on quick detailer and dust. Sounds like my car just had too much dust. I will take everyone's advice and step back.

I spent hours on our black vehicles yesterday. Today the pollen has arrived! AGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Even if it's a little dusty, it will still look better than most of the other black cars out there. I get ''how do you keep that so clean?'' when I think it's filthy.
