Dyer venting

If your original vent was flexible corregated pipe, the distances you shared are indeed too long. You are lucky you did not have a lint plug occur. Friction losses for corregated pipe is three times greater than smooth pipe. That means 1 ft of corregated pipe has the same losses as 3ft. of smooth pipe.
 
Our dryer vents the length of the garage plus the distance from the dryer to the outside wall (about 25' with one 90° elbow). Never had any problems, possibly because the builder used 6" smooth wall piping to accommodate the distance and regular maintenance on our part keeping the pipe lint free as possible.
Another possibility if you have an attic would be to pipe up into the attic then to the closest outside wall (or gable). You'd need a lint trap behind the dryer (and keep it clean) and size the system according to length of run and 90°'s used as suggested. No matter how you do it, get it to the outside.

Our dryer vents through the roof. We recently had the vent cleaned, likely the first time ever, and it was full of junk. Dryer works better, uses less electricity, and we feel much safer now from possible fire in that area.

I would look into an alternate area for the vent if you have any other choices.
 
Really really bad idea. This is how houses burn down. Just clean or have your original drier vent cleaned periodically. And into the garage with the cars there? It's like putting your toilet drain into your sink.

How do houses burn down because of a dryer venting into the garage?

Mine vents out through the roof.
