Hit my budget early this year with detailing supplies and needed a grit guard for my rinse bucket. I had 2 of these drying racks from the dollar store that I no longer use:

Using medical shears and eyeballing the cuts I did the following:
Bottom of drying rack -> grate. Pan under the drying rack -> stands. Then I cut the basket on the drying rack it so it would hang on the side of my bucket for brushes:

Finally make the cuts in the middle of the stands so they interlock. I had to cut out "V" shapes so they would clear the ridges in the plastic.

The holes in the grate are big so I'm not certain how well the particles will stay "trapped". In theory, the interlocking stand will keep the particulates from getting washed around and back onto my mit.

As good as an actual grit guard? Probably not. Better than nothing? Definitely!

Now that boys a genius!!!

I will gladly steal this idea, thank you very much sir....

Glad ya'll like it! I'll come back and review it after I've used it once or twice.

I bet if companies made the stands collapsible they could ship them in flat envelopes which would decrease the prices big time. I'd design and sell them myself but the patent is ridiculously broad.

Wow! I am thoroughly impressed by the simplicity and the amount of usefulness out of the design! The top basket is my favorite part.
You deserve an award!
(Clapping and cheering)

PS I believe Grit Guard just lost a few sales.

Awesome, I'll have to keep an eye out for some parts to source now.

Now that's economical. Add a couple more holes and Zip ties to secure the grate to the stand and your in business

Thank you! I was thinking about running split hosing or tubing around the grate so it's snug against the bucket. I like that it's collapsible for easy storage

that is pretty creative, but I would just rather spend the $10 (or less) and just buy the real thing. it's a one time buy and it will last you forever...

I hear ya! :iagree:

I was going to throw these things out and I needed grit guards. I figured I'd give it a shot and share my idea with the community. I'll still probably buy one eventually because the slits are a little too wide. (That's what she said?)

I think the best thing is the collapsible design. For the way I store my supplies it saves space. Maybe if someone in the "industry" took note of the design they can pack them flat for cheaper shipping?

That was a great solution; I hope you're studying engineering--our country needs more minds like yours.

I love "McGyvering" things myself and really liked this "adaptation"!

And, hey, if it doesn't work out...bring it back in the house and say "Hey, hon? Look what i made for you! Put the clean wet dishes in THIS. And look...it even has a silverware bin!"

(i know...it amazes me too that i'm still married!!!)
