I am just (business) curious who uses email as as their sole contact information versus phone? If just email I'd it privacy or until a customer expresses a serious interest?

I prefer email.
For whatever reason, most customers prefer text message by phone.
Surprising to me how many out there never check their email, or do so once a week, once a month.

Regardless, always best to have written communication to avoid possible he said / he said issues.

I think it would be nuts to not diversify your communication avenues. E-mail is a "slow" communication method compared to phone. If you only choose one you're really limiting yourself and your competition will be getting the business you're not open to.

No one is suggesting to limit communication methods.
Some just prefer one method over the other.
Really the customer will dictate how they communicate with you, for they will do whatever they want no matter what you suggest.
You have to be able to adapt and step out of your comfort zone.
It is just the nature of business.

When I was just starting out and only doing this part time I would miss a lot of calls because I couldn't answer the phone while I was at work... I missed out on thousands of dollars worth of work simply because I couldn't answer the phone in time. Many customers who are just looking for basic detailing services like a wash and interior detail (or whatever) will just start calling down a list of providers, usually from an internet search, until they get one who can schedule them quickly.

Now, as my main source of income, I can not imagine NOT using one method of communication simply for my convenience or preference. I have clients who email, text, call, chat or just book online. I think, as a business, your goal should be to make it as convenient as possible for potential clients to get in touch with you. Otherwise you are just loosing money to your competition who will actually answer their phone/email/etc.

In general I will continue a conversation using whatever method the client chose to originally contact me. My assumption is that if they texted me then the probably prefer me to respond via text rather than call them back or shoot an email.

Phone is preferable. When people contact me online I require them to give me email and a phone number, but I have an option for them to tell me which one they prefer to be contacted by.

Thankyou all for offering your viewpoints.
