I'm removing the stock emblems on my vehicle to replace with these

they both "stick on" how should I go about removing the stock emblems?..

First use a hair dryer or low temp heat gun to heat up the adhesives behind the emblem. Then get some fishing string or dental floss and slowly pull the string behind the emblem. Keep heating it up every so often.

how do i take care of the left over residue?

I guess 3m adhesive remover? anything that I could sub for that in our detailing arsenal?

you can try tree and sap remover. I had a civic I removed the badges off and I used goo-gone. not saying thats paint safe at all but it did turn out fine. I would try something that is more paint-friendly just to be on the safe side.

Furthermore I would sport the no badge look for a little, you might be more happy with the clean panels then putting that other badge on?

Removed all badges but the si badge on the grill and "H" on trunk. I hated those immature i-vtec badges on the sides especially (those were stickers) then i opted for the "civic" and "si" badges on the back (similar to your "gt" badge)

I definitely love a cleaner look, thats what my build for this is (as all of my builds) however behind the gt emblem there is a hole, which I'd have to plug, which wouldn't be too much of a problem if it was permanent
however I was given these emblems free and didn't really plan on using them but I'm adding a few more small chrome and red accents so I think it will offset them nicely

^^ Thanks, kinda miss that car, especially the gas milage. However, I would not trade my truck for anything in the world now.

Any reason you love the tundras so much?? No pun intended just wondering.

removed all the badges with dental floss and goo-gone, then clayed and polished, unless you do, someday you will see exactly what and where the emblems were.

I will wet the remaining adhesive with IPA and wipe with a MF. Then proceed to clay those spots and follow up by using a paint cleaner by machine then seal the paint.

Isn't it best to strip it down, I thought you weren't supposed to apply things like that over a sealant and or wax

I just love my truck. Its the first full-size truck I have ever owned and first vehicle with a V8. If I had my choice of any truck it would be a Ram 2500 with the cummins or the Silverado 2500 with the duramax. Unfortunately money dictates my selection. :) sorry for going off track with this post.

If you are talking about the IPA, it will degrade your sealant or wax. But it will help get all that unseen residue off.

So wd-40 will be fine to remove residue

I removed my emblems using dental floss. I'd recommend fishing line as dental floss broke frequently. Also try to use a sawing motion with the string as it will cut through the adhesive faster.

After the emblems came off I saturated the remaining adhesive with goo-gone. This softened it up pretty well. Ended up using a guitar pick to scrape the rest off.

Finally I used M105 to get rid of the outlines and light marring from scraping the paint.

Ended up looking pretty good. In the right kind of light I could still see the outlines so I ended up spot sanding with 2000 grit wet paper and then polishing back up.

Thanks for the input, did you use the "automotive" goo gone

Tarminator removed the badge adhesive on my 2012 Nissan. My badges were attached with grey double-sided tape. If you warm up the adhesive with a hair dryer after removing the badge, you may be able to roll the adhesive off with your thumb and skip the chemicals.

Fishing line worked for me, but I was a little uneasy "sawing" the adhesive off paint with the fishing line. It felt like I might abrade the paint underneath the adhesive.

If I had to do it over again, I might soak the adhesive for a few minutes with Tarminator then heat it. Should be able to lift it off with your fingers after that.

Be careful, my paint got hot pretty quick with hair dryer heat.

I appreciate all the input but would like to not have to make another trip to the store to do this, so any other input on wd-40 for removing the adhesive?

Also after removing and cleaning, should I apply the new emblem to unprotected paint or put it over a wax etc
