Engine detailing

Do a search on Simple Green Corrosive and Airplane and you will get a lot of conflicting information. At any rate, Simple Green was concerned enough to come out with Extreme Simple Green.

Here is one quote:

"It has been brought to the attention of the U.S. Army Aviation Missile Command (AMCOM) Depot Maintenance Engineering Team that numerous units are using the commercial product SIMPLE GREEN as an aircraft wash. STOP! This product has been through Department of Defense (DOD) testing and was determined to be highly corrosive on aircraft aluminum and also a catalyst for Hydrogen Embrittlement in high strength aircraft alloys."

I spent 20 years as an aircraft inspector in the US Army and I can tell you that I better never catch a bottle of Simple Green even in the work place. Most of the skin and a lot of parts on aircraft are made from a Aluminum and Magnesium alloys and simple green does interact with Magnesium like many OTC cleaners do. We did not allow the use of products like 409, Dawn and etc because bearing especially on the main rotor and tail rotor assembles and hanger type bearings it would break down the lubrication and cause premature failure. Unlike a car, it tough to pull over to the side the road when something fails.
 
I use Q-tips too when detailing my car. Dennish, so what DID they use on the planes? Um excuse me, Aircraft??

I never said that I heard voices Scooter, you are the one that said you did! LOL And I use the q-tips to clean in the tight crevices of my car's interior as well as to get wax out of tight crevices on the car's exterior, now does that make me crazy or just thorough?? If you want to call me crazy, do so because I write stupid songs about cars and detailing, not because I use Q-tips! ;)

I uses pre-used Q-tips. The rare american waxes are organic and tightly bonding.
