I'm new to posting on forums but not new to detailing with 15 years of experience I'm still learning. With that said here are some details I have done on some engines. The first is of 2001 Toyota Camry and the last are of a 1997 Ford Explorer.

I've always been afraid to detail engines...theres so many mixed opinions on what is safe...

1) Some say warm the engine for 5 mins, then turn off, then no need to cover anything, then hose away and degreaser, agitate and rinse, then turn on engine to let it dry
2) Some say make sure engine is cold (basically do it first thing in morning), hose everything, degreaser, agitate, rinse, and air dry
3) some say cover some parts...

which is it? and what parts do you need to cover? is it safe to just hose it down without covering anything? the only part of detailing that I am afraid of.

What you need to cover is mostly the alternator and like fuse box

I personally dont cover anything never had any problems I have even taken out my alternator and pressure washed and let to dry put it back in and never had an issue don't pressure wash the entire engine but when it's out it's fine

Just never use pressure to wash and you wont have any problems

cover alternator and intake, sometimes the plugs

I use a hose instead of the pressure washer so water isn't forced into places it doesn't need to be. easy peasy

I'm drunk as I write this btw so take it with a grain of salt.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Each make, model, and manufacturer is different. Each has its' own set of circumstances/problem areas.

Good looking work OP-especially the aluminum.
