Engine Oil......

Thats a negative these claims are in fact true (extended intervals). The 3m/3g's mi was true back in the day, but like most things technology catches up and improves life. These oils can in fact last 5,000+ easy without breaking a sweat. I run a synthetic blend (Motorcraft 10w30) and run it for 5,000, city and highway and plenty of spirited driving. The difference is I have proof it's working fine and holding up just fine (hell as you can see they want me to go 6,000 miles and check).

There are plenty of other UOA showing motors going 8,000+ miles and the oils still not broken down and providing plenty of protection.

Well, I cant argue with you here, I guess the proof is in the numbers. But, I will say, that changing your oil at 3 months/3k mi is cheap insurance if you expect alot from your car. Maybe its just peace of mind to me, but my car is certainly driven harder then most on the road, and I like to do whatever I can to keep it in tip top shape.

By using a high grade synthetic oil, and still abiding by 3mnths/3k mi, I am SURE that I am getting the most protection from my oil possible, and over time my engine will be cleaner and stay performing well.

Good habits die hard sometimes I guess.

Which place are those oil reports from wytstang? Id be interested in doing this myself sometime.

You should put the oil in a clean container and let someone else put it their car and use it for 5000 miles......and I'm not kidding either.

Free: 6qts Mobile 1 5w30, used for less then 3k miles, pickup only in northern NJ, new batch 4 times/year ;)

Also not kidding lol

I use Kendall full synthetic. Even with a steady diet of nitrous and 7,000 rpm, I never had any issues with my Cobra.

Of course we do approx. 5,000 oil changes a year with Kendall synthetic blend bulk oil, in anything from Cavaliers to V-12 Bimmers.... also with no issues.

There are a number of great choices in oil. However, without a great oil filter, even the best oils are mediocre at best.

As far as I'm concerned, it's all about the oil filter. Great filtration, plenty of quality filter media, with a high flow rate!

Like mentioned Blackstone labs is were I had mine done. Worth every penny as well imo, from that report I was able to see there may be a fuel problem. Guess what, my #8 injector was clogged and shotting fuel directly at the spark plug causing poor air fuel mixture and leaving the plug covered in gunk on one side. Problem solved. I too believed in the 3/3 rule but I'm glad I did my homework and saw the light. Dontsleeponit it's a very good idea to have it done, an oil sample can detect possible bearing failure early and giving you the heads up instead of getting on it and hearing a knock of some sort.
