It has begun....

I decided to move phase 1 to tonight since it's supposed to rain hard tomorrow.

Tonight I did the following:
Wash
IronX
Wash again
Nanoskin
Rinse
Dry
Vacuum

No more wax

Nice reflection shot, simple detail and that color green is very beautiful though question did you forget, ran out or just didn't want to apply another coat of wax

^ Menzerna 4500 with a red waxing pad for an ultra fine final polish? To get every bit of final gloss? :)

Very true Flash Gordon though looking at that flawless reflection shot its hard to believe it need any polishing

I think Mr. Gordon is just using context clues here.

Thread title: Epic Detail Weekend

(leading me to believe there's more than one "phase." and also that this process has "begun" not ended, and will last longer than a day, since the title is "weekend"

Also, the steps Detail Kitty described would remove the wax. I think the image shown further proves that the water is not "beading" in the sense that it's protected. It's water on clearcoat.

Ready for Compound, Polish, Glaze, whatever Detail Kitty would determine a worthy step 2.

We're on AGO, fellas, you know that it might not be necessary, but if you can get just a little more shine, you'll do it, right??

Plus, it probably doesn't hurt that Detail Kitty has mentioned taking off work for the "spring detail" in other threads.

Just a guess though.

Hee hee hee....

Don't worry folks, there is way more to come. That was merely a "the wax and decontaminants are gone" shot.

Today is correction and polish day. I like getting out all the little imperfections that it collect through the winter.

My "epic weekend" will go through Monday... why? I like spreading my steps out so I don't have to kill myself. So I took off today and Monday :xyxthumbs:

I will post up phase 2 once it's finished :buffing:

FYI- I love that you were all concerned

Hey Kitty...does this have the wet sand spot your debating about?

if so..show pix

Mike

So doing Iron X and Nanoskin removes all wax?

Subscribed, ofcoarse! I'm a sucker for BRG MINI's, even if its not true BRG.

I'm sure the cars going to turn out great Monica!

Sent from my SPH-M930 using AG Online

So doing Iron X and Nanoskin removes all wax?

Iron X will remove iron contaminants and rubbing a Nanoskin towel or wash mitt should remove most of any previously appled wax or paint sealant if not all of it.

Rubbing a Nanoskin towel or washmitt certainly wont' add new wax or sealant so what's the opposite of the word add?

:)

That's the way to do it... I recommend this approach to a lot of more older guys I work with for this same reason... so they won't kill themselves...

Already looking forward to the after pictures...

Thx Mike!

Ok, today's tasks are completed. Here were my tools for the day:

I first brought out the light and looked around the car... it wasn't that bad... some areas worse than others, like the black pillars on each side of the windshield and the boot and rear bumper.
Hopefully you can see what I mean by my pics:

Even though I've used these products on my car before, I figured I'd start with a test spot. Yup, still hard clear coat.

So away I went with M105. Pretty much went over the entire car with it.

Then used M205 to polish everything up.

Everything turned out well. I didn't get everything out... there are some scratches that are just too deep and I decided to live with them a while ago. But I was happy to see some fade and some disappear altogether :dblthumb2:

OH! And for those marveling at my black trim and wondering my secret, or anyone wanting a cheap, lasting solution for black trim bits...here it is:

It is a paint additive you put in wood sealant for decks. You can find it at your local Home Depot or Lowes, and a quart is only about $11.00. I JUST applied a fresh coat (just because) today. Last time I applied it was back in November. I just use a microfiber to wipe it on.

Very nice! :right on: Nice to see a Mini that is clean, most Minis I see are usually filthy!

You had me with "BRITISH GREEN" I gotta remember that pentrol wifes sube is covered with way too much plastic for my taste.

Great looking work Monica!:dblthumb2:

A multiple day correction is the smart way to do it.

Now how many of you single guys got to this picture and heard the sad trombone? :D

Looking forward to sun shots.

Awesome!! I to have a plan for mine very soon. The wife and kids are taking a couple days to go see some friends. I'm placing the bed in the garage and hard on the paint!

You all have one hell of a arsenal there! I see a bike, your mini, and I think a Jeep? Need two garages me thinks. Oh, and a very loooong tattoo!

Yes, there are more toys not represented as well.

LOL- I didn't realize I was in any shots... but looking back I see some reflections
