Epic Review - 2006 Subaru Spring Detail

Outstanding job Bill! The car looks amazing, the format was easy to follow, lots of info on the process, and cool pictures/video. This is probably one of my favorite write-ups! Also as stated the time lapse video is really cool! :props: So what's next? I'm looking forward to another! :hungry:

Im lovin the write ups. First Corey with the reviews, then Marc and Jacobs insane write up on the VW and now yours!

Amazing work and amazing dedication! How long did it take you to create this post? Im guessing at least an hour.

Thanks again, it was really informative and kept me interested. I will watch the video tonight....lookin forward to it.

Damn!!

This is like one of the most awesome review/show and shine article!!!

I'm just amazed with the amount of detail given for each process etc. :xyxthumbs:

Great work!

Thanks! I had a lot of fun capturing the process!

It is all Corey's fault ... he keeps raising the bar for write ups.

I probably spent about 2-3 hours on the writeup.

Next is the wife's car, polished and opti-coated.

I agree with you on the Hyper Compound Spray splatter. I tried it out today on my '02 Accent (writeup and pics coming once it's finished) and loved its working time and correction ability. To eliminate splatter, try opening the nozzle almost to the point where it comes off, use a slow pull of the trigger and apply it to the pad in a circle or X pattern. You won't get that wide mist of product like in Dr. G's and Mike Phillips' video but you won't get splatter either.

Incredible job on the car and the photography skills. Your writing skills are up there also. I noticed your new fluorescent lights in action too.

Thanks for sharing!:xyxthumbs:

Thanks buddy!

You are the main reason that review turned out as awesome as it did :)

Nice writup and detail, turned out great.

I have a question for you in regards to the Dr. Colorchp. I have read where a few others used an old t shirt or other soft cotton cloth to smear the Dr. Colorchip touchup on road rash areas. When you applied it by cloth, did you basically wipe it across and let it dry or try to work it and smear it in as applying? Also, how long did you let it set before wiping it off? I want to try this method myself, so I figured I'd ask so I can do it right the first time around

Using a pair of old boxer shorts folded a few times, I put the cloth over the bottle and gave it a quick shake to get product onto the cloth. Then I smeared it / worked it in until it was very thinly coated. As I found out, this product is not happy if you apply it too thick.

The directions state that you have up to 2 hours to remove it, so I went around the entire car and touched everything up, then came back to do the removal. In some cases I had product that sat up to 45 minutes. I did make a test spot and leave it overnight ... and it will not remove now.

If I were to do it again, I would change my method, because I found that the defects are a lot harder to find & go back to remove once they are filled in. I would suggest touching up one panel, then going back and removing it right away. In the demonstrations I have seen you can remove the product as quickly as about a minute.

It rained on my way to work today, so I got some cellphone shots of the beading:

Bill, great writeup!! Nice jersey, looks like you are quite fit and can do long rides ;) This is good for long details as well!!

The paint looks fantastic! But what I have learned over time is when you think it doesn't make a difference to finish down further, it is worth the time to do so. I think 106FA would have been a good choice to follow up with, and all it would take would be a very quick pass. But it is more time and after seeing your product list I bet you were quite exhausted ;) The paint still looks fantastic, like I said. Great job!

LOL at the UTTG/Corey comment! I hope he is getting a discount or some freebies! He has probably singlehandedly sold more UTTG than anyone! Him and Marc (Z06) with the OPC ;)

Great write up, I enjoyed reading. :) I liked the idea of the video as well.

Great beading on the pics, I will refer to his thread when I use the Dr. Color Chip I ordered for my Dads Denali.

Is there an easy way to slow down (like run 1/2 speed) youtube videos? I guess I could try to download it and use a player.

JLB sounds like a great idea ... I will try finishing it down with 106FA and see how it looks. Probably will do it if I take it to a car show this summer, I just ran out of motivation to do it all in one shot.

Excellent write-up! The time-lapse videos and HDR reflection shots are awesome. It was a great read, Legacy. Thanks for your extensive time and effort put into this review. :xyxthumbs:

So I finally got the time to read through the thread and I have to say, it was a great read!

Bill, your photography skills are also
