I've been blessed to have worked on a number aircraft used as Air Force One.
Boeing VC-137 SAM970 Seattle Museum of Flight
Boeing VC-137 SAM971, VC-118 and VC-140 Pima Air and Space Museum
This aircraft is on display at Castle Air Museum in Atwater, Ca. It is about two hours north of a WWII era B-17 we polished. (Read the post on the B-17 here - Epic road trip... we took our polishers! )
We thought we were so close and have our equipment with us, why not.
SAM681 is a Douglas VC-9. This particular aircraft was served the administrations of Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, George Bush Sr., Clinton and George Bush Jr. It had retired for a while and looked like it needed some attention to getting looking it's best and to preserve it.
Having just beat on old weathered aluminum skins for four days down in Tulare, the aluminum on SAM681 was very easy to shine.
The paint was lightly oxidized. We used Rupes BigFoots and Milles with Meguiars M205 to polish it.
One of the museum personnel gave us a private tour of the interior even.
Again, the team was spectacular!! They always have my back and for that, I can't thank them enough.
We completed the project in a day and 1/2.
I absolutely love my job!!
