Epic road trip... we took our polishers!

We were out of time. We had another bird that needed our TLC that we were to start on the next day.

We are detailers and by nature and we are perfectionist. She looked great but she isn't perfect. She is greatly improved.
She could easily have used another day or two of refining. All in all everybody was satisfied.

We not only helped preserve history for others to enjoy, in a small way, we are part of its history now as well.

We were proud of what we accomplished. We couldn't have done it without the sponsors, the great folks of Tulare that fed us and kept us motivated.

I can not thank my team enough. When the going got tough, they got tougher. I love each one of them!

It was a honor to work with Joe and this great bunch of detailers. Egos were left at the gate and their passion was exposed. If you ever get a chance to work on a project with Joe it will be a experience like no other ( never a dull moment with Joes stand-up comedy ). The people of Tulare came out in droves to watch and assist in feeding us and keeping us hydrated as well. Loved seeing Lake Country and Ace Clearwater step up and sponsor this project.

AutoGeek has done this for numerous projects I have joined Joe on in the past and without help like theirs these would not be possible.

Well said Paul. Thank you for your hard work and your friendship.

Amazing work! If I had known about this I would have volunteered in a heartbeat to be a part of this.

May 12, 2018, A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to rededicate the refurbished B-17.

This by far was the best part of the entire project. The turn out was huge. Many of the city's veterans were in attendance.
Greg and his crew had painted on the correct marking for the aircraft. She looked great!!

Unbelievable! Absolutely stunning bird now. Thank you, Joe for sharing that project with us.

I will now stop complaining about Chevy Suburban's being too big!

Joe,

What a great way to give back to the Veterans and the Country. I really enjoy seeing the restoration of such important historical planes. It would be neat to see these planes placed in museums or hangars so they could be protected from the elements, but in a way being outside is where they belong as well.

Do you leave the Veterans any information or way to keep the finish preserved?

How were the planes maintained and washed when in service?

Thanks again for the great thread and more importantly to the work you and the group performed!

Joe,
That bird is one of only a few tangible things that remain from a very different world compared to the world we live in now. As I watched the video of those veterans singing God Bless America, I could see the pride each of them has for this country as well as how much this project meant to them. I'm confident that for many of these vets, their appreciation for the hard work and genuine concern shown by everyone who donated their time and products could never be adequately conveyed.
Theirs was called the "Greatest Generation". They sacrificed more, gave more and lost more than any other in this country, before or since so things like this bird have a profoundly significant meaning to them. Seeing someone applying the kind of TLC your team did meant more to them than neither you nor I possibly will ever know.
As I watched/listened to them singing, I could feel the tears well up in my eyes.
You and your team make me proud to be an American. Thank you for the work you do on these very important and worthy projects. You guys are a cut above. Great job!!

Yes, They have a system in place to keep her clean. We plan on gathering in Tulare every two years or so to maintenance polish her.
