Have had the idea of detailing on the side
for a while now and am finally gunna
give it a shot and buy some tools. I feel like
buying the right equipment now will be
smarter and save me money in the long
run. A tornador black and mytee 2 are
on my list, I already have a PC da. If you
were starting out again would you buy
these or would you go with others?
Maybe steam cleaner instead of tornador?
Or both? I'm not really worried about
buying the equipment since even if it
Doesn't work out I'll always have it for
my personal use and my family's vehicles.

What things do you have other than a DA?


I always recommend training as its the best way to learn how to properly detail. Getting the hands on experience is the best IMO and worth every penny you can spend. While its a bigger cost up front the knowlegde and skill you gain during training will pay off greatly in the long run.

I think the most important thing is possessing the knowledge to complete a job satisfactorily . The tools make the jobs easier.

Me personally, I have an extractor, tornador, and a steamer for interiors. On light to medium jobs I'll use only the tornador or steamer. Heavy gets the extractor. Most jobs can be done with just a tornador and shop vac.

Are you going to offer paint correction, or just basic exterior wash and wax?

towels that's about it. I have a central vacuum
in my garage also. Only looking to get into
Interior and basic exterior, no paint correction
yet. I figure the only way to really be efficent
and deliver a good product the extractor
and tornador/steamer are needed.

Tornador is nice, But I don't use it like I thought I would. Plus I run it off my 15G compressor and it just doesn't have the volume for consistent 70-90psi. It's nice for getting hair, dirt, sand, loose out of carpets before vacuuming. I find it can sometimes make a mess with the contents if your not careful. Not to mention spraying around lights and dash electrics. So I'd think you could get by with a basic compressor setup.

As for low cost steamers/extractors I have no experience with so I cant say your need for one at this point in your hobby. You can get away without them if your just doing your family's vehicles.

Id get a Shop-Vac, Dont know if your central is Wet/Dry. Need this for keeping carpets,cloth seats, and headliners clean. "Sucking up the access water/soap/chemical"

Grab a jug of Meguiar’s D101 All Purpose Cleaner, 1 Gallon - $16.99
Use on carpet, fabric, vinyl, and leather for all-over interior cleaning! Dilute as needed. I use for car wheels/rims also.

I'd buy a few brushes for the interior, One for leather, Cloth, Carpet, Vinyl.

I also use this wax. I love it. Still have over half my gallon left and its been over 8 months.

So Compressor, Shop-Vac, Meguiar’s D101 All Purpose Cleaner 1 Gallon, brushes Will have you on your way to great looking interiors at a good price. Also that Gallon of cleaner will last you awhile if you dilute correctly. Good luck! Hope this has helped.
