I've done several vehicles for this client and this is his latest acquisition. He previously tried to purchase the vehicle in an auction 4 months ago and came up short. Fast forward less than half a year and he was able to get it...at a premium...with swirls and RIDs recently installed. Because he will be dirving this car regularly, the goal was to get as many of the shallow defects out as possible while saving room for future work. Before my arrival, the owner had washed and decon'd the car. I was left to do a quick rinseless for some light dust before jumping into the correction

Process
Rinseless with N-914

RIDs with flex kompaky, flex orange foam and P1 compound

Compounded with Boss 21, megs MF, grios FCC
Adams mini, LC MF, P1 compound
Flex Kompact orange foam P1 compound
Flex 3401, LC hybrid orange P1 compound for complex curves

Polish with Boss 21, rupes yellow, m205
adams mini rupes yellow, m205
flex kompakt flex black foam, m205
flex 3401, lc hybrid white, m205 for complex curves

Sealed with Angelwax Ti-22
Topped with Angelwax Enigma

All correction shots are after compound and solvent wipe, so there is a bit of haze

A few finished shots

His garage could use some tidying-up. I see a towel and extension cord out of place:)

Great work, awesome car, and that client has an awesome garage. Thanks for sharing.

So true, the towel was there because he found some sand on the floor over there and thought there might be a gap in the door.

I must have gotten the other picture just right because you can't see the extension cord is for a trickle charger. But the cord length is way too long, needs to be corrected.

This is at a car condo, essentially you buy a unit with garage space and a loft. He doesn't hang out there much since his home is about a 1/2-mile away. Some are very extravagant, this is definitely spartan by comparison

Thanks, they are beautiful cars, and the build quality on this one is very good. Heart goes pitter patter; knees and back do not.

In lieu of payment for that, I'd ask to take it for a drive.

Wow.....!

I know it's metal, rubber and glass at the end of the day but how do you move past the value of the car and working on it, I'd be nervous as beck 😱

Just like wisconsin, we don't have good roadster weather currently. But in the summer we will be burning some petrol.

Nice work!

Great job great car!

Jim

ERA is the replica manufacturer. As much as I'd like you to believe it's the real deal, it's not an original, though it's a very good replica, so no nerves to speak of. The radiator connections are a dead give-away, I think the front bumpers are mismatched for that body and motor, the motor isn't right either and the panel gaps are far too consistent for an original (though still no where near modern machined standards). As I understand it, the originals were actually slapped together very quickly. Should have different valve covers, black distributor cap and wires, single air filter housing, among other things, I'm sure the shelby experts could list off plenty of other discrepancies, those are just the ones I noticed from seeing the real thing.

It's actually all fiberglass construction. So keeping panel temps low and not being able to track paint thickness were my only real concerns.

My old car, but I wasn't the one who put the swirls in (:
A few things about this car: Chrome bumperettes in place of quick jacks are common - not necessarily wrong. Dual quads correct for a 427 FE, which this car has. Radiator connections are just like original except top hose is full rubber instead of partial hard fitting. Chrome pentroof valve covers are absolutely correct. Yep, black wires and cap would be nice, but the ignition was upgraded to MSD for driveability. Great car. That paint and build is over 20 years old now! Hard to find a nicer Cobra replica that an ERA such as this one.

Had to do some correction of my own when I got the car. Purchased it from a self described detailing expert. Um..OK.

The 427 I've gotten a very close look at came from a GT500, and some other SAAC photos Rand had; poor assumptions on my part, there are bound to be some differences. Very nice work.

These are very fun cars to drive and work on. No flat panels and lots of things in the way of your buffing pads (: The worst is doing the rear with all the lift-the-dot studs and roll bar in the way. Those will eat up a pad instantly. Gotta pull out the small pads and take your time. Very rewarding though. I'm curious how you handle the dash inside the windshield area. I find I have to do this area mostly by hand, which sucks. My favorite one to detail was the black one I had (also an ERA). Much more fun than doing a huge late model Mustang or similar black car.
