Anyone offer evening services? I am a weekend warrior when it comes to detailing however, I get out early on Fridays and I'm available after 6PM and if I only had an interior detail or something small on Saturday or Sunday, I basically have the rest of the day not doing anything and could be making some money instead of letting it go to waste. I know that I would not be able to do any paint corrections or any big projects but was thinking more among the lines of a full exterior wash and spray wax service. I'm thinking about doing this on Fridays, Saturday's and Sundays from 6-10PM by appointment only of course. Even though it won't be major money, I'm doing it because some money is better than none and I'm also thinking that this would be a good chance for me to take advantage of this time and speak to the customers about future work they might be interested in getting done and perhaps even taking the time to perform a sample test spot so they can get a feel of how their car could look in the future.

I tried searching on here to see if anyone has ever tried this before but could not find anything.

Opinions/tips are appreciated:props:

I think it would be a great idea. I am primarily geared up for mobile service but just recently I have had some requests from clients to drop the vehicle off and have it ready the next day. I save on gas, they see it as a convenience because they aren't driving the car at night anyway. It's a win/win for everyone.

I have a day job on top of my detailing business so the "overnight" service thing actually works out pretty great with my schedule too. I bet if you actually market your service as an "overnight convenience" you could do really well.

Best of luck! :props:

Offering evening services is something I have done in the past and now try to stay away from. The main reason is: Final inspection!

Although I have a nice and well illuminated shop with some 1000w tripod lights, and a Brinkmann in hand, I always prefer to do my final inspection in the sun. I have missed a few small areas on more than one occasion while inspecting in the shop which became obvious as the nose on my face in the sunlight.

A secondary reason was one of convenience for the customer. From my experience, the customers were a lot more receptive to make arrangements to drop off early in the morning (or the night before) and picking up at 6pm, than to make arrangements to come pick up their car at 10pm.

Nick and Dr. Pain.....Thank you both for your input!

This is something that I have been asked to do once in a while but not something that I have actually "advertised". Until this day, I have not had any problems with missing something. When I do this, I always explain to my customers that this is not a paint correction or anything that goes into extensive detail just incase there is any concerns and they have all been understanding of this. I would like more input before I take the leap of faith here if possible! Keep em' coming!

I agree! I want to have a life to and really don't want customers at my house past 7pm.

Man....what a great point on final inspection. Nothing beats daylight, even if it's overcast.

Otherwise, great idea. Maybe something you could pursue on a case-by-case basis?

You can do final inspections in the dark, you just have to be vary, vary careful. Get some good Halogen stand up lighting and move it a lot. It can be done, but you have to spend much more time.

Also.. of course most people don't want to be detailing all evening, but in the detail world most of us deal with a very seasonal business, and sometimes you have to work beyond the regular 4-6 P.M. to get all that you can during your prime season.

It's really a matter of whether you want to do it or not, whether you have enough business to schedule the work in the evening, and whether that will work out with your clients schedules.

When I had the full time job alongside detailing, I'd book small jobs on weeknights after 6 during the summer. its not so bad when the days are long

I like to have sunlight. I do the opposite In the summer when the days are long. I like to get going real early(5:30-6 AM) That way I can cover a lot of ground before it gets to hot and the sun is directly overhead.
