Ever feel ashamed of where you work?

Lakeland Toyota.

I'm not trying to bad mouth my own job, but sometimes people are just despicable. However, if you ever need some good discounts on Toyota parts, I'll hook you up, lol. I try to help people out, not rob them. Just ask for Nick. ;)

If you were not so far maybe, Tampa to lakeland is kind of a ways, actually I had a 2006 Toyota Avalon xls come in with a bad evaporater, could you maybe shoot me a pm tomorrow on a price for one? Or I might just give you a call

We have a website called ToyotaPartsExpress.com or you can call in with the VIN, ask for Nick, and I'll get the phone. The VIN is really important with Toyota vehicles as many different part numbers can come up for one part. If for some reason you can't get it, I can still check and give you a ballpark. I can always ship to you, as well, I'd just have a charge a flat rate shipping cost of $10.

By the way, I work Tuesday thru Saturday, 7 to 4, off Mondays. So any time you call, just call on those days and ask only for me. If I'm not available, just say you'll call back or just have one of the guys give me a message. I don't want them thinking I'm handing out parts for free, but if anything, I'll say you're a old friend or something.

Well my system tells me the dealer part number, I will call tomorrow, is there a special extension I can reach you at?

I am also tax excempt, can you set me up?

Yes, you can just fax a copy of the current form over and I can set you up in our system.

No, I don't have a personal extension, just ask for Nick, they'll put you on hold and yell at me for the phone, lol.

Yes. I work in the "detail" department of both a Honda and Kia dealership (same company). I dare say that most members of this forum would shoot me on sight if they saw our "detailing practices." However, it is a paycheck, and as long as people are happy that is the main thing, so it is what it is. We don't do any buffing, but I guess I am knowingly a hack detailer of sorts.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/off-topic/36749-whose-fault-really.html

Included in the definition of Hack Detailers are people that either knowingly or unknowingly instill rotary buffer swirls or holograms into a car's paint but do so either unwillingly or because they honestly know not what they do...

Unknowingly
The reason I state this can be done knowingly or unknowingly is because some products will look great after wipe-off after being applied using a rotary buffer, so in the detailer's mind he thinks he left a swirl free finish. It's after the paint is washed a few times or repeatedly exposed to inclement weather that whatever wax, sealant or glaze was applied begins to wash off exposing the rotary buffer swirls.

Now most of you reading this know that with a little education, the above group of people can be taught proper technique and things like choosing the appropriate pads and products to do good work, but not everyone is a member of a detailing discussion forum and a person only knows what they know. That's why I aways say that the best detailers are detailers that hang out on discussion forums because via discussion forums we're always learning about new products or new approaches...

Believe it or not, there exists people that buff out cars that don't hang out on the Internet let alone a detailing discussion forum.

Knowingly
At one point in my life I called on body shops, dealerships and detail shops to conduct product training, during another point in my life I called on these same types of shops to conduct sales and here's the deal... I met plenty of "detailers" and also "Painter's Helpers", that knew they were instilling swirls as a result of their buffing work but there was nothing they could do about it outside of quiting.

In these situations, these are employees provided products and tools by the company and their job is to do the best they can with what they are given. I know for a fact that many of these people knew they were doing hack work and didn't like it but the situation they were in was out of their control.

Sad truth is, most of have had jobs we didn't like but did them out of neccassity... If this hasn't happened to you... count your blessings...

The above are just two examples of people instilling swirls either knowingly or unknowingly and in these examples they don't really fit the description of "Hack Detailer" as it's usually used on discussion forums in a derogatory manner as their intentions were for good, their circumstances were out of their control.

A real Hack Detailer would be someone that knows they're doing shoddy work and does so anyways... I would say after you filter out everyone that fits into the above two categories, (knowingly or unknowingly), that there are fewer hack detailers in the world then we all think, that is people who knowingly and willingly do horrible work and create horrendous results.

I worked at an internet marketing company for a while. Their "pitch" was they would put your website on the first page of google, under a specific search term, for a flat monthly rate. It was some of the best money I have ever made.

After a while I noticed a lot of my customers were ending their contracts... so I started looking into things a bit further. Turns out if an ad was getting clicked on too much they would drop it down to the very bottom of the page (usually ads that require scrolling to see are not clicked). If that didn't work and the ad still got more clicks we would either hike up the monthly price or pull the add and immediately terminate the customers contract.

Then, looking further into the numbers, I found out how much we were actually making... it was like 90% gross margin on most of the ads that were sold.

After learning all this I couldn't sell to anyone. I had zero sales the next 7 days. I just couldn't justify talking people in to such a horrible scam. I started to literally get sick to my stomach while I was there. I ended up quitting the week before christmas (with no other job lined up) because I couldn't stand it anymore.

So yeah, I know the feeling.

Why do you think you need to be more thankful for your job? You sound like a great employee, your employer should be thankful to have you.

If I were in your shoes I would be looking for another job. Sounds like you have a great reference from your boss and seem to be a valuable employee.

Keep your head up. You only get to play this game (life) once, don't waste it around negative, crappy people.

That is called integrity good Sir - Thank you for being a practitioner rather than a casual observer.

I keep getting jobs at places I hate! I've worked at several utility companies and the most hated ISP in the whole world. The thing that helps me is I work to make things better at whatever place. You can't turn a company around, but you can make things better for your customers.
