Good afternoon,

Just joined the forum. I had worked in the "detailing" industry in the past..........like back when bell bottoms were cool and Saturday night fever was actually a hit and and not a comedy. Actually, it was pretty much a comedy back then too, at least in this area. No one owned anything but denim and we still had live bands at the dances after the football games. Point is, I'm older than dirt as is my knowledge of the current status of the industry. I worked at a car wash in the winters and they buffed out cars on the other side. Wanting to graduate from towel boy to the buffing side, I went to a pawn shop and bought an old Craftsman grinder. Thing weighed like 8 tons and sounded like the gears in the head would explode at any moment. I got maybe five minutes of training and then I was put to work.

No joke, you had three compounds and one speed on your tool. Wool bonnets were all there was, well, all we had, and it was not a perfect science. It was a car wash after all, we got stuff shiny but it is laughable when you look at today's technology.

So yeah, pretty much just lurking in the shadows, reading post after post of knowledge. When I get done with that, maybe I'll have some questions........so I'll be back in a month or two.

Excellent site, great information, very pleased I found it.

Hi and...:welcome:...to AGO.

JMHO:
It'll probably be a little bit longer than a month or two,
if you take time to read all of the: "post after post of knowledge".

Please stop and check back in before that.

:)

Agreed................every time I go off on a thread it brings up acronyms and products I have no idea what they are. In over my head ? Yep. But my vehicles are not going to clean themselves. Living in a climate where they use battery acid for ice melt on the roads and a real short summer, my paint gets abused pretty bad just by the elements. The Jeeps.....they get rock rash and scratches from the brush, but that is an entirely different subject.

Welcome to the Geek. Enjoy all the great information found here!

Welcome welcome welcome!
:welcome::wave:
To your/er our... er YOUR obsession.
Us old dudes need to stick together! ;)

Welcome, and everything HAS changed, for the better. Even compared to a decade ago, we have an abundance of great products that make car care so much easier and better.

:welcome: To Autogeek Online!! :props:

Does this look familiar?

This is my first polisher I bought new in 1968......:wow:

Acronyms become a hassle in the beginning. But You might start using them without thinking about them after you learn them.

The other day I was texting a family member and brought up the term CC (this is a seasoned Auto Body Manager) He asked me "what is CC?"

I explained then he put "oh ok lol"

Wait...............did you ever pawn this ? If the bearings were shot in the head, then I think I owned it.

Still reading, watching, learning. Ordered some products, tools and chems, first shipment should be here on thursday.

I have the luxury (I guess) of having a donor vehicle to practice on. It is my old service truck, an '86 dodge. I do believe it got washed last about 06. As far as something without oxidation, but plenty of clear coat damage, the TJ's will be used, both are black. What can I say, it is a place to start.

Back to reading............

I printed out the acronym cheat sheet from the forum, all six pages of it. Have it right here. Been helping allot.

I appreciate the forum and the willingness of everyone to share infinite amounts of wisdom. This is probably the best tool of all when it comes to what I am trying to achieve. Thanks to everybody who posts.
