Evil Car Cleaning Product(s)

i think anything that is sold on a infomercial that has to do with car care should be considered evil!!! LOL

What was the infomercial where they waxed the hood, caught the hood on fire with lighter fluid, then wiped the black mark clean with a towel?

Its an old one, like 10 years, maybe.

I don't remember that infomercial, but at auto shows back in the eighties the Liquid Glass salesmen used to do that. They'd spray the car with spray paint and mark it with a grease pencil, too! I must've bought ten bottles of that stuff back then for my 66 Mustang. Of course, I would then go home and proceed to apply it with cloth diapers and remove it with old bath towels!! Ah, the teenage years...young, dumb and...well, you know...

I remember that! But I can't recall the product it was for. I was too busy trying to figure out how to get some Malms. Finally convinced my dad that the old can of paste Simonize was past it's date, and could he please order some Malms polish and wax. That was certainly the first micropolish I had used. And compared to the old Simonize/Rally, etc., it was a JOY to work with.

The stuff you guys are talking about was call Arui or something to that effect. I just threw a bottle out about 2 1/2 months ago when i was helping clean out the old mans garage.

That was Auri on the "Amazing Discoveries" series of infomercials with Mike Levy and that English guy. There was another one called "Liquid Lustre" that was a pink liquid car wax that smelled like a mixture of Simichrome and liquid wax. Actually, I bought and liked the Liquid Lustre quite a bit. It did a great job removing tar and racing tire rubber off my Dad's race car, while leaving behind a fairly nice shine. Non abrasive, or extremely fine abrasive, but it had so much solvent in it, it didn't need any in order to get stuff off the paint. Actually nothing has worked better for me to remove tar and rubber than it did. I saw Liquid Lustre at the auto show and picked one up in 1988.

Armor-All, if you use it inside your vehicle, will crack you dash and destroy stuff.

I never understand why people STILL give AA a bad rap. I promise, if I sent you a "sample" of a new dressing, and you used it like you would use any of your other "boutique" dressings, you would not tell it's AA. AA is water based, and if you do a second wipe with a dry MF, looks nice and matte.

I wonder how many times AA has been relabeled and praised under another label. In today's marketplace, you can bet it's done.

.........not to hijack this thread, but you guy's mentioned infomercial waxes. I'm going to do a posting on them in a few minutes(it's been on my mind for some reason).

wolfgang clay lub is evil because of its smell, nasty stuff.

I remember the scent of the original version of ONR ... it made me gag after each bottle opening, and man that stuff was worth the reflux.

I wrote up a review of the old, infomercial waxes....pressed submit....and my computer(at work) timed out and erased my posting! I'll re-write at home and post it when I have some time.

Blackthornone- They still sell Liquid Lustre! I have two bottles for old times' sake...and to smell it again :) Do a google search.

Well, I've seen what it does to vehicles and have not used it in well over 10 years. Perhapes it "might" be better but, I will never ever buy any AA again.

Again, my $.02.

Oh, and I've decided that Mequire's Gel Tire dressing (the purple, grape scented stuff) is evil...at least for me. It gets on everything, the smell never leaves your hands, and good Lord does it build up and turn brown after a while. It takes a great deal of scrubbing to get the old stuff off the tires. The Wife likes the shiny look on her tires, so I used it on hers for a while, but no more! I refuse.

I don't know if we're talking about the same product, but i tried some of MG tire gel/spray with similar results. You cannot get this stuff off of anything it touches! Evil!

i don't like putting anything on my dash that will give it ANY kind of shine.... I like to keep it as I got it new which is why I only use stoner's window spray or zainos leather in a bottle.... I don't even like a matte or satin finish.. has to be DRY DRY DRY

The "liquid" clay OTC products that do nothing at all.
