Hey all! Ive been an amateur detailer for about a year or so just fooling around with my my cheap polisher and lake country pads along with poorboys products. Ive had good results doing some of my friends Evo's back in GA and some of the local Evos here in Reno (if you can't tell i own an Evo :righton:). Looking to get a little more serious and should be picking up a PC or UDM soon along with some Menzerna products.

Looking forward to learning from the site and please throw out an suggestions. Now for some pics of the Evo :D

:welcome: Tipperfx3 you are going to be a big hit here. Welcome to AG!! :D LOL

where is the car in the first pic? i must have missed it. let me stare i mean look at it again.

oh yea. welcome to AG. great people and products here. what kind of cheap polisher you using now?

Thanks guys! The exhaust is actually a 1st gen. Buschur racing turboback. The car made 312 hp on 93 octane with just the exhaust, intake, boost at 21psi and a tune.

The pics were taken in North Lake Tahoe on some private property (glad i didnt get shot lol) and it was actually a photoshoot for my GF, so ive got more pics and will try to get them up later.

Im currently using Poorboys Polish and EX-P and clearkote wax. It works better than the OTC stuff, but i cant get it to really pop. Any suggestions guys?

Tripper- The EX-P is a clear sealant so it looks best on lighter colors that have a lot of flake. I can't tell in the pictures if the Evo has any metal flakes in it or not... but if it has light metal flakes you may want to try a sealant that has more gloss to it, like Poorboys EX with Carnauba or Wolfgang Sealant. I do know one thing, you NEED to get some Optimum Spray Wax, IMO it looks best on silver paint, you won't regret it.

On a metallic paint like yours sealant, like DP Surface shield will really pop the flake - DP Premium Surface Shield Paint Sealant Free Bonus!
Top it off with Pinnacle SSII carnauba wax after it cured for 12 hours -
Pinnacle Signature Series II Carnauba Paste Wax will give you a deep, wet finish will exceed your expectations. car wax, carnauba paste wax, pinnacle

Thanks for the quick replys guys. The car does have a light flake in it, but the clear coat and paint on the Evos sucks! Would the DP be best applied with a PC? Like i mentioned above i have a cheap circular polisher that i picked up from Harbor Freight with some Lake country pads. Im planning on getting a PC or UDM as one of the guys on the Evo forums has been helping me out as well and his work is amazing, but im having problems getting the swirls out of my car using a LC orange pad and Poorboy SSR followed by the LC white pad and Poorboys polish and than the gray with EX-P. Ive got some SSR 2.5, but they dont seem that bad. What could i possibly be doing wrong? I normally do an entire panel at a time, but think i just need to work on smaller sections.

Also if anyone has a PC or UDM for sale or is wanting to get rid of one soon just PM me with an offer. Im hoping i should have the money around xmas time and hopefully AG may have a great package deal with the Menzera polishes (I have a guy i detail for locally with a 2007 Benz SUV). Let me know guys and gals!

I trully feel that a lot of product is being wasted when you are applying waxes/sealants with a PC. I wouldn't even bother using orbital, as all you will be doing is inducing buffer swirls. When using a one-stepper (XMT 360, Poorboy's PwS) yes, pure sealant/wax - no.

Welcome, always nice to see another EVO owner join the forums!
Second what Super said, no orbital of pure wax/ sealants. Its a waste of product, and time. Plus it just feels good to massage the wax into the paint.
And, yes mitsu clear sucks, but you can get around it. :D

I too have a Harbor Freight rotary. It is inexpensive but not cheap :). You'll definitely want to do smaller areas with SSR2.5. I have found the SSR line to work best with a PC or UDM and will remove a ton of swirls. If you are planning on sticking to the rotary then you can't beat the price and results you get from Optimum, or spend the $$ on Menzerna.

maybe it is just me but my optimum out does my menz. and i am comparing IP -vs-OP and MP-vs-OP

:welcome:I love it when a women loves and maintain their vehicles as much as some men do.

Only clear coat problem, notoriously!, is on the wing and thats on the 8s, my friends was pretty much peeling off, cracking, filming so we had to sand it down and reclear it and looks good as new.

Mine on the spoiler is getting pretty bad, but not as bad as most. My friend back in GA worked for a paint shop and could have gotten it re-cleared for 40 bucks... Im debating taking it off and putting it in the overhead bin when i fly back to GA lol.

Im a guy BTW that my GF. lol
