example of why a paint cleaner is important

If what you are removing is stuff on the paint with the pre-wax cleaner why not use the pre-wax cleaner prior to polishing so you are not polishing with the stuff on the paint since it must be getting moved around during polishing. I think everyone has said the polish is not being left behind.

Exactly!

not to get too far off topic but, what would you guys think about mixing a polish and a paint cleanser? I wanted to try 106ff and P21S paintwork cleansing lotion. Kind of like an AIO minus the protection.

I've been using Pinn PCL before polishing and an IPA or KAIO wipedown after, before sealants. Should this be reversed or maybe the PCL before claying? Only had one similarly horrendous pad discoloration, but that was on the roof of a ten year old, neglected SUV that never had seen any remedial attention or regular maintenance which I ascribed to extreme oxidation. Three passes with FF106 and two pads eventually cleaned the invisible surface crud. Don't mind the extra work and ateps if it makes a difference; just want to get the sequence right.

I use M83 which is a cleaner and a polish, but the polish doesn't come close to SIP or IP. I still have to follow it up with SIP or IP and it takes longer.

Perhaps this is only happening on cars that would have benefited from a FK paint decomtamination kit?

I've noticed that before, everything looks perfecto after polishing, looks clean and smooth. Then I go over with Klasse AIO and finishing pad and whammo, white pad starts turning darker. I too would think after claying and correctly polishing and wipe down that the paint would be clean... but obviously not.

Dana what would your process before you polish? I know you dont use AIO's but have ever had dirty pads on the 2nd or third step?

I have had a similar experience which tells me (as others have stated) that a paint "cleanser" is an important step - at least once or twice per year. I had a white Santa Fe. I washed, then clayed and then corrected (multiple passes) with Meguiars' Ultimate Compound and yellow (aggressive) LCS pads. The next weekend I washed again and used XMT 360 for a next to final step before Poorboy's EX-P. XMT 360 gives minor correction, paint "cleanser" action and sealant (kind of like an "all in one"). The orange pad I used with the XMT was filthy (off of a white car) so the polish/cleanser component was removing "something" other than residual Ultimate Compound. I was really quite surprised. I even did two panels with Meguiars' 205 after the UC just to try to "up" the correction but decided it was not necessary. Even on those panels the XMT 360 pads picked up a lot of black/grey "stuff". Really opened my eyes on the chemical paint "cleansers". This vehicle had not had any real paint "treatment" of any kind for a good 2 - 3 years plus - other than being kept very clean with regular washings (but no claying). So, in retrospect adding a paint cleanser step makes some sense - at least once or twice per year. I'll know more in the Spring when I hit it again - maybe with Pinnacle Paint Cleanser just to see what I get. Live and Learn!!

Best Regards,

Martin

If I am going to polish a vehicle after I wash it, it always gets a IPA wipedown before I start and an IPA wipedown after every polish step. After polishing and doing my last wipedown I have not seen any dirt left over or during my polishing step. I will say this on my first compound step with wool on a few very nasty cars I have pulled some dirt out of the paint, but after that no dirt.

when i use SHR with a Orange pad i use very little product and just keep spraying a little detail spray on to the pad. had no problems with any build-up or dusting. after each product i would use detail spray and wip down the car just to make sure everything is clean before moving to the next step. like the white pad with polish and black pad with wax just my 2 cents.:xyxthumbs:

Before polishing I use the pressure washer to help get any debris off the car. The pressure washer helps make claying faster. Then a good strong citrus based carwash soap is used.

I guess I would be worried how the cleaners in P21S Paintwork Cleansing Lotion would react wit the lubricating oils in 106ff? Would the cleaners break doing the lubricating oils??? I am not sure but if I was going to try this, I would practice on a panel from a junk yard to see how it works out before trying it on someone's car.

The main reason I use a cleaner product such as EZ Creme Glaze after polishing is to make sure the sealant properly bonds to the paint. IPA and prep sol both work well too but to me, this step cleans a little better and gives a nice look to add. Really great step before applying your protection.

We are talking about after polishing with something like SHR/FMP still being able to pull contaminants out of the paint with a chemical paint cleanser like Revive. :xyxthumbs:

EZ Creme Glaze is a cleaner? I have always heard EZ Creme has very light cleaners.

Ok, that's cool

I have never had a polishing pad, white or orange, contaminated with dirt after use. I do get clear coat transfer onto my pads and microfibers, as my clear obviously has some red in it.
