Expecting too much from coating?

Thanks for all the input. Last question, am I safe to continue using the Chemical Guys Snow Foam? I bought a ton of it on clearance last year.

Are there coatings that don't water spot? Or do I need some kind of filter to prevent them?

most all products will spot with municiple water like you noted. rule is to NEVER rinse off the car with hose thinking it will help a rain covered car. Best thing to do is wash it or rinseless wash it.

Can't comment on the product but I'm not a fan of foam guns on power washers, etc. I use an IK12 foam sprayer as I can 100% control the pH level of what I'm using. That's not as easily done with a pressure washer or hose attached sprayer.

I think this is an important point.

The only water spotting issues I've ever encountered was from hose/sprinkler water drying on the paint. However, I had similar issues with cars with sealants too in that scenario.

If a coated car is dirty/dusty/pollen covered and gets rained or snowed on, I'll see some spots where the water beads collect material when they dry, but those spots are easily removed with normal wash. Nothing like dried hose municipal water.

Chemical guys soap is not bad, it foams a lot and smells good, but it has gloss enhancers that with repeated use, can mask the properties of a coating and make it look like it’s not working anymore. For me, CarPro Reset is the way to go.

I'll give it an order. Thanks! Also, the IK12 foam sprayer was never on my radar. I've got an air compressor. Is it much easier than using the foam cannon on the pressure washer? I bought a small electric pressure washer for the cannon, the gas one has too much power and is overkill.

I have one along with a battery powered air compressor that I use to keep constant pressure so I can phone the entire car twice over and it works great for me!

I have no experience with that new iK foamer, I have the old one that requires you to pump non-stop. I rarely use that. Or my foam cannon. My car is never dirty enough to foam, I just rinse and proceed to wash it with the bucket wash. Foaming wastes too much soap.

The newer IK units have a shcrader valve on them

In terms of soap, the foamer uses far less. I run CarPro Reset and normally use 1oz to a 5 gallon bucket and can do one car.

With the sprayer I use 1/2oz To a full sprayer which then provides enough to foam my cars 4+ times thus I can do 2 cars with half the amount.

The only catch is to remove the cotton aerator ever use and soak it in vinegar to keep it from gumming up.

The old ones can too with a hole in the right spot.
(I made a ghetto foamer out of a $9 pump up sprayer once as a proof of concept and put a schrader in since I had extras at the shop)

I went into my first coating experience with high hopes, too high. I got let down after the first winter. I am not sure about NY state but here in OH they use the liquid deicers in the winter and if left to sit on the car for even a couple weeks it seems to etch. Paint and glass. Spots that required polishing. A problem I didn't have with much cheaper, simpler LSPs. I took it to the detailer that installed it and he said he too feels it is the latest deicers causing it. He said the customers that had this problem were unable to wash their cars regularly in the winter due to a lack of facilities available to them. I washed my car at least once a month in the winter in a very dark parking garage. CarPro Reset was my shampoo. It couldn't touch the water/deicer spots. Neither would CarPro Spotless in any dilution. So I gave up and had it polished, which likely removed most if not all the coating. Oh well.

Fast forward three years and I am going back to wax. I am taking six days memorial day weekend and the main project on the books is paint correction on the GLI and maybe my wife's Ultima. After the paint correction the GLI is getting Colinite 915 and her car is getting 476. Time to go back to simpler times.... got a fresh jug of Hyperwash to tie the return to simpler times all together :)

I have no problem with applying wax or sealant every few months. I look forward to it.

I missed it! Before this last winter I gave my car a clay(no polish, was going into winter anyways) and topped with two coats of Jescar Ulta Lock Plus. While an Si02 sealant, it applies like a wax and WOW I didn't realize how much I truly missed the ol' wax on wax off process. I hadn't had that much fun applying protection to my car in years.
