Extent of GG 3" Orbital Polisher v2

Hey everyone, I purchased the GG 3" Orbital Polisher mainly for small sections of the vehicle and headlight restoration. The other day I just went over my headlights with 105/205 with the foam pads the polisher came with. I felt like I wasn't getting enough rotation from the machine. The question I have is if the GG 3' Polisher IS sufficient enough for restoring headlight or even heavy paint correction? Will it remove sanding marks on headlight or paint when restoring? If I need to get better pads then the ones that came with the polisher. Do you all have suggestions on that?

The Griot's Garage 3" Mini Polisher is a GREAT 3" machine sander. And for this it's great for doing headlight restoration. We sell Mirka Abralon 3" sanding discs and this tool and these discs are a match made in heaven.

As for removing sanding marks out of headlights get a rotary buffer and a wool pad. For paint correction get a full sized orbital polishers.


The right tool for the job....

Thanks Mike, So the 3" GG wouldn't be sufficient for removing sanding marks or paint correcting smaller panels on the vehicle? I also have a PC and Flex 3401
 
But a dual action polisher will remove sanding marks right?

Yes, with enough power and the right pad and polish. The GG 3" doesn't have much power, but as Mike noted, it's great for sanding headlights, get the foam interface pads and some Mirka, 3M or Meguiar's discs. Last ones I did I followed the Meguiar's recommendations and went 800 dry, 1000 damp, 3000 damp, then I used 3M Trizact 5000 damp and was able to go to polish after without having to use a compound.
 
Nice. Did you use the 4" pads on your PC to polish them?

Yes, in this instance I used an old blue 1-1/4" thick pad with Optimum Hyper Polish and followed with 3 coats of Opti-Lens. Take that, yellowing! Sorry, it's been a weird afternoon.
 
and by the way what brand sanding discs did you use all the way up to the 5000? Sorry for so many questions
