I just picked up a new Nissan Xterra Pro-4x this past Tuesday, but i was wondering one thing while giving it its first polish and wax. What is the best way to keep the exterior plastic (bumpers and the front of the roof rack) looking new? None of my previous cars had anything of the sort, so I'm new to caring for this type of material. Thank you everyone for your input in advance.

Clean with APC, do an IPA wipe down and apply UTTG or Solution.

thank you everyone for the really fast responses. I'll be sure to pick some up on my next order

If you're looking for something a little cheaper (nothing against Ultima or anything, I have the interior stuff and love it) you can try the 303 Aerospace stuff. I use it on the exterior plastics on my Jeep and it seems to work pretty good for keeping it nice looking.

I like Wolfgang Trim Sealant but I recently put it on a new truck and it attracted a lot of dust.

Poorboys Exterior Trim is a good choice and is a lot cheaper than Wolfgang. Lexol is fine too.

use a trim sealant for sure. if its new you should not have to restore it if kept in good condition with a trim sealant.

cmichael258 dont link to outside manufacturers that are not sold by autogeek. can get you into trouble.

yeah the truck is brand new, just passed 200 miles today. I just ordered a bottle of UTTG along with a bunch of other odds and ends. What kind of durability can I expect from UTTG? It's garage kept for a better part of the day.

Re-coat every 6 months and you should be good to go.

Oops, I didn't realize you had already ordered something. UTTG is an excellent product :dblthumb2:

ROFL Darren! Well, Rich Evans is endorsing it but I don't think he is the man responsible for it.

Well, I haven't decided yet as so far I'm not quite a month in on SF durability. So far so good!

However, the OP asked what the best he could do was and my thought was the makeup of Solution Finish is great for the health of plastics.

For faded plastics Solution Finish definitely gets my nod over anything else.

For new plastics UTTG is still my favorite but if someone wants to do the very best they can to protect it I think Solution Finish layered with UTTG is top notch.

I got the chance today to use my newly acquired UTTG and I have to say that the recommendation was spot on. A little goes a long way and it gives the plastic a nice rich look. Thank you again for the input everyone!

good to hear!, i just tried uttg for the first time last week, make the plastic trim look great and it was pretty faded, i've read people say it don't darken much but to me, it darkened plenty without leaving a unnatural shine, you know what looks great? a coat of uttg on your tires then a light coat of opti-bond on top. my tires suck in the optibond and looks just clean no real sheen like i like so i used the uttg and it stopped the opti-bond from soaking in so much and made the tires look great...

Hey guys... What if thE UTTG touches the paint on the car when im trying to apply it on the trim?

Will it remove my LSP? Can i just wipe it off with a MF towel?

No problem! just wipe it off ASAP with mf towel and a waterless wash. It is an incredibly durable product!! So if you don't get the excess off before it dries it can be difficult to remove without clay or polish.

I say get the excess off because as long as you wipe the excess off to the point where it looks like any other part if the paint your in good shape. See next paragraph...

Remove your lsp? Depends on the lsp... It may be possible with a very weak wax but this should not be a concern because it will replace the wax as your lsp in that little spot. Months later you'll probably see that little spot beading better than the rest of the vehicle you used a wax or many sealants on.

However no issue whatsoever as far as staining or hurting the paint long term. I coat my clear coated wheels with UTTG regularly!!! On non porous surfaces like wheels, chrome, etc the product should be buffed off after application. I wait about 5-20 minutes depending. Nothing is easier, protects, and shines more on chrome without polishing ime.

Of course on trim as you know it's wipe on thin and walk away.
